The Huntington Drone has been around forever and a day, and this trolling spoon is a stand-by for fish like Spanish or king mackerel, striped bass, bluefish, and many others. So, how do you improve on a lure like this? Can there be anything “new” about a spoon that’s existed for eons? You bet – at one of the fishing shows this winter I bumped into the Drone folks, and they gave me some new trolling spoons to test out that are a significant improvement over yesteryear’s Drones.
The difference is in the finish; instead of the same-old same-old silver and gold, or color tape, Huntington’s new Electric series of spoons are powder-coated either once or multiple times to attain some seriously flashy base colors. Then flash tape cane be added (or not, as you choose) to give a multiple color pattern to each individual spoon. Here’s what they look like with, and without, the powder-coat/flash tape combo:
