Owner/Builder Comments:

I have been building  custom boats for about 20 years, every thing from canoes to cruisers ( I figure about 15 boats over all)  I have taken around ten classes at the wooden boat school in Maine where I met Bob Stephens he was my first instructor . Bob works as the chief designer for the Brooklin Boat Yard . When I decided to build my own cruiser I contacted Bob , and the Diesel Launch 19' is the result of our collaboration .

As for the DL-19's Construction She is cold molded. Her hull is four layers of Cedar the first layer is half inch Atlantic white cedar tongue & groove set for and aft fastened with bronze screws , followed by three layers of one eight inch Spanish cedar set in epoxy and vacuumed bagged on .She is sheeted in 10 oz cloth also set on epoxy. ( makes for a tough light hull)  Her structural members ( engine stringers, deck beams, floor timbers ect.) are all old growth vertical grain douglas fir . the bulkheads and decks are Okume marine ply sheeted in dynel cloth . Her combings , and cabinets are all mahogany .  All fastenings are bronze as well as her rudder , strut , trough hulls ,ect.

The design hinged around my desire to have a vessel that could handle the intercoastal waterways yet be small enough to trailer to the bigger lakes in the north east . There are many large lakes up here that are wonderful to explore by boat .  The DL-19' has proven to be more than I could have hoped for at filling her design purpose.
