History and Construction -
Built in the UK from the design of Richard Carter, a boat built to compete at local level racing and sail fast, but also suit the cruising yachtsman. A recent purchase for the current owner who has used the boat for over a year and who is now looking to move up to a larger vessel.
"Scarborough Fair" has a good inboard engine, the ever popular Yanmar 2GM, situated under the cockpit and companionway steps. The fuel tank is under the cockpit too. The boat has had the addition of 240V power from shore, with inverter to 12V, to use your computers and television onboard.
The boat has had a new raise coachroof forward of the mast, giving better headroom for using the toilet and the forecabin areas. The work has been inspected and surveyed by a marine surveyor in 2007. The replacement coach roof was passed as being entirely suitable and satisfactory for this size of vessel. This Carter 30 has got a good open feel down below because of the higher raised coachroof forward you get a bigger boat "feel".
Currently there is a slight problem with the masthead instruments, they are not reading accurately, may need re-aligning at the masthead, plus the log does not read accurately either, according to reference with the GPS.
The cockpit is a "fat T shape", common to Carters of other sizes, with side lockers giving access for storage. On deck all ropes are led aft to the cockpit for reefing and sail raising. The boat has a self steering unit, and the current owner often sails single-handed. The spray hood has new canvaswork, protecting the companionway.
Comments - - - This Carter 30 has all the traits of being a good sailing vessel, fast and well behaved. The owner says that the boat sails really well.
