Description/Condition

 - Own a Piece of Maritime History -

Hull #1 SOLD ... Now we can build one for you!

The only afordable way to own a brand new, traditionally designed and built wooden boat

This is not a replica. It is will be built using the same techniques and materials commomn at the time of it's design with some upgrades such as bronze fasteners and a modern engine.

The Northwest  School of Wooden Boatbuilding was founded in 1981 and carries on the vision of its founder, Puget Sound area Master Shipwright Bob Prothero, to teach and preserve the skills and crafts associated with wooden boatbuilding.

Tim Lee, Chief Instructor, chose this boat for his Traditional Large Craft classes as a superb example of a tough local workboat suited to the waters and weather of the Pacific Northwest.

H.C. Hanson, a well-known and prolific Pacific Northwest designer active in the mid-twentieth century, designed the Forest Service Boat as a Rough Water Power Launch for the U.S. Forest Service around 1957. Built over the past 2 years by the School's Traditional Large Craft construction class, it is 25 feet long and just over 7 feet in beam with a 4 foot draft. Driven by a modern 40hp Yanmar diesel engine, it is being fully equipped to support two people for a cruising lifestyle in the waters of the Puget Sound.
