A rare Stan Huntingford Custom blue water cruiser, Bearing Strait has seen years of offshore duty and is a proven vessel in all conditions.  Constructed by her owner and finished over the course of 2 years, her construction details include Airex Foam core fiberglass hull and end grain balsa fiberglass deck (.5oz matte, 3 layers 24oz fabmat/roving, 1 layer matte, 3 layer gelcoat), she feels solid under foot. Her interior and exterior wood is gumwood, know for its density and strength and her sprit is Honduras Mahogany. Designed and finished to provide a very simple and extremely functional interior for offshore passage making, her accomodations create an immense number of storage nooks and crannies.  Repowered in 2001 with a reliable, proven Kubota 3 cylinder 22HP diesel, she will carry on for days at 6 knots consuming 3/4 gal/hr giving her a range exceeding 400 miles.  On a 1996 trip leaving Homer headed to Sitka, she safely survived 3 days in the middle of Hurricane Tom with winds exceeding 85mph and seas exceeding 40 feet. Bearing Strait is a proven blue water vessel. In May 2007, she was fitted with new standing rigging, new sails, new running rigging, new GPS & satellite phone antenna, and solar charging system in preparation for a 30 day passage to Hawaii.  After a month in Hawaii, she turned around and sailed 30 days back to Oak Harbor, WA.   As with all owner finished blue water cruisers,  her traditional wood interior is functional and bears no resemblence to today's mass produced production cruisers.  Marine survey completed June 10, 2012.
