Description/Condition

Originally offererd at $89,900. New price $69,900. Offers Encouraged.

This Classic Downeast trawler by John Alden and Company was custom built for her original owner in Hull, MA. Alden Yacht Design still maintain her drawings on file. Design #929B.

Her construction is conventional framing in white oak with steam bent ribs on 8" centers. Her keel and keelson are white oak. She is planked in cold molded double diagonal marine ply with fiberglass finish cloth and West System epoxy. This system of construction has produced a very strong hull with great longevity. She was repowered in 1994 with a rebuilt Ford Lehman 100 hp diesel which now has 1300 hours.

The Patricia Gayle was built for a dentist in Hull, Mass. who named her "Dauber" She was next sold to a family in Yarmouth, Maine where she was renamed "The Ship" then to another family in Cape Elizabeth where she was renamed "Samuel T." before being purchased by the listing broker Hal Oakes in 1994 who named her "Susan." While under Oakes' watch she underwent a major refit, repower and restoration in 1994. The next nine years were spent cruising the Maine coast with his family. Always stored inside and improved upon each winter. The "Susan" proved to be a great sea keeping boat and comfortable family cruiser. In 2000, the "Susan" was sold to her current owners and renamed the "Patricia Gayle." They have enjoyed this boat for more years than any other owner, keeping her stored inside winters. She has been converted to a sedan trawler with the removal of the flying bridge and masts. She was surveyed in 2010 by Joseph Lobley and found to be in good condition.

Last photo shows current configuration as a sedan cruiser. Flying bridge, masts and lifelines removed.
