The 42' Musslel Ridge is one of the newest Downeast designs available. It incorporates many of the best characteristics of proven Maine built lobster boat hulls. A traditional stem and sheer, with flair forward and tumblehome aft to create an aesthetically pleasing hull above the waterline. Below the waterline, a hard chine is used; proven in the V-hull form to create lift and stability, with a full keel. 

The hull shape is "built down" amidships to allow a lower engine installation while giving a lower center of gravity, and a more horizontal drive line for efficiency. A fine entry forward while after sections transition toward the "skeg built" style, dampening roll and creating a narrow keel section just forward of the propeller. The propeller aperature is large enough to accommodate a larger propeller used in higher power applications with out having to resort to a high DAR propeller. 

This hull could be compared to the 42' Duffy, 42' Wesmac, 43' Lowell, 44' Calvin Beal, 40' Wayne Beal in several of its qualities.
