The Swan 82 S (Semi-Raised Saloon) has taken the advantages of the RS and FD and combined the cruising practicality and spaciousness of the RS with the sleek, performance-orientated lines of the FD.

The Rig
With the mast rising to 32.5m above the deck, the Swan 82S is capable of carrying impressive amounts of sail. The five-batten mainsail, which has 11 square metres greater area than the original versions of the Swan 82. This has proved to be the most popular option to date, although owners can also choose a roller-furling systems if they prefer.

The Hull
The hull is finished in a high-gloss gelcoat layer, allowing for easy maintenance in the event of any minor bumps or scrapes, without compromising the beautiful appearance that is an essential part of any Swan yacht. Fpr stability, the standard keel specification for the Swan 82 is an L-shaped steel fin with lead bulb, giving a maximum draft of 3.75m. However, the Swan 82S has been specified with a slightly deeper keel of 4.0m draft, for enhanced upwind performance.

The Deck
The forward sections of the deck on the Swan 82S vary little from the original concept. It is mainly the aft sections and, in particular, the cockpit arrangements that have changed with the lastest configuration.

The Swan 82S draws some inspiration from the RS version, with the guest cockpit situated aft of the deckhouse, and the steering pedestals located more if less on the aft deck. The major difference is the low-profile deckhouse, which gives the yacht a very high-performance feel. The main saloon floor has been lowered accordingly, in order to maintian sufficient head room in this area.

In keeping with her high-performance pedigree, the Swan 82S comes fitted with carbon-fibre mast and boom, The mast is supported by four sets of swept-back soreaders, which virtually negates the need for runners. However, they are provided for the use of the boat in extreme conditions with stormy sails.

Interior
In general, the interior layout of the new S version is similar to the RS, although the most aft bulkhead and the rudder post have been moved slightly further back, to allow a little more space aft of the main saloon. In terms of accommodation, there is a crew cabin at the front, along with a guest cabin containing a double berth plus single pullman. Behind this there are two guest cabins each containing two bunks, with a possible pullman. The owner's cabin aft provides sufficient space for a generously-sized double bed.

Saloon
At the centre of the main saloon is a solid teak table, to which the owner can specify many sublte alterations, not least the inclusion of a sub-woofer linked into the entertainment system. The entertainment systems themselves are as different as the owners who specify them, with some choosing a simple CD music system, and others opting for a 42-inch plasma screen in the main saloon, with DVD players and virtually every piece of modern electronic gadgetry installed.

The Galley
In the galley, the standard supplied equipment is a four-burner gas stove, along with a microwave oven, two fridges and a freezer.
