Nordic Tugs is an American builder of trawler tugs based in Bulrington, WA. Founded in 1980, the company produces six different pleasure tug models ranging from 26 to 54 feet in length. So what exactly is a "trawler tug?" Essentially, it's a boat with a semi-displacement, trawler-type hull and above-the-waterline design cues taken from the same tugs that earn their living pushing big ships around. Those cues include high pilothouses with vertical windows, tall, almost plumb bows, and gently rounded sterns. Inside, the boats offer expansive interiors fitted with sustainable woods aimed at long-distance cruising boaters. Every boat is a single-engine configuration, allowing these tough boats to sip fuel ultra-efficiently underway. Each hull, deck, and superstructure are built with multi-directional stitch mat fiberglass cloth and a special vinylester resin that resists osmotic blistering. Below the waterline, stainless steel is used to reinforce critical areas, while inside the hull, only marine-grade tinned electrical wiring is used on each Nordic Tug's systems The result? A cruising tug that will stand the test of time.
