20 knot cruise, 27 mph wide open Twin disc 2:1 Aquamet 2 1/4 shaft 28 x 37 4 blade wheel 28 x 36.5 AccuTec 3 blade spare wheel Fuel: 550 gals in 4 fiberglass tanks Hull construction:
Construction

End Grain Balsa Cored from keel to 6" below rail. Deck: 1" Balsa cored/fiberglass composite deck, Stringers: 1" Balsa/fiberglass composite The hull construction was personally overseen by the owner. This is a basic descripton of the hull construction. Keep in mind that the owner of this boat also built the molds for the 38' Northern Bay for Northern Bay (Downeast Composites) His opinion is that Balsa is by far the best and strongest core material. Gelcoat sprayed into mold 2 layers of 1 1/2 oz matt layed in with Hydrex epoxy resin (a water proof resin will not allow water intrusion into the hull) 2 layers of bi-axial (matt/woven) layed in with polyester resin Corebond applied with 1/4" trowel 3/4" end grain balsa fully impregnated with polyester resin layed into corebond at application for chemical bond for structural integrity Balsa panels rolled out, allowed to gas out and cure, Scrim removed Panels ground for mechanical attachment of interior layers of bi-axial 3 layers of bi-axial layed in with polyester resin, matt down on balsa to start, matt up on last layer of bi-axial This work was done by owner of vessel and Northern Bay to the highest levels of control and environment.

This is an extremely stong and quiet riding hull. Everything about this boat was done to the highest levels of commercial finish for strength and integrity. In addition to the flotation value of end grain balsa, this vessel also incorporates encapsulated foam flotation throughout the hull.
