Filling a unique slot in the market, the Hirondelle Family2 is based on one of the most successful small cruising yachts in the past 25 years, the earlier Hirondelle (sometimes called the Hirondelle 24), of which more than 300 were built. She gives unprecedented room, performance and seakeeping qualities in a 23-foot boat. From her high-efficiency, NACA-section keels, to the tip of her optional, revolutionary AeroRig, she is designed to perform. With an impressive pointing ability of less than 80 degrees between tacks, and average cruising speeds which would be normal on much larger monohulls, the Hirondelle is a real cruising yacht. Her motion, too, is that of a big boat, thanks to her 12-foot beam and the high volume of the new hollow keel design. To add that extra sparkle in light airs, an optional cruising chute is available. Under power, the Hirondelle can turn in under a boat length. She is driven by a 9.9 hp outboard in the cockpit well. This well-proven system gives easy access to the engine, keeps the prop deep in undisturbed water for maximum thrust, and allows the engine to be lifted clear of the water when sailing. The Hirondelle Family2 is a proper family boat, with her enormous cockpit and twin hatchways that let the whole crew move around with ease. Her light, airy interior, with its panoramic view, has none of that oppressive "down below" feel. She was designed for comfort at sea and in port as a family cruising home. The ship's cook will be pleased. In the starboard hull, the Hirondelle has the largest fully-fitted galley in a boat of this length, with large eye-level windows, safety flame out cooker, refrigerator, and ample storage. It has been favourably compared with 35-foot yachts costing many times as much. Over in the port hull is a huge toilet compartment, complete with vanity unit, wet locker and dry storage to make washing and changing at sea, or in port, a pleasure. Also over in the port hull is the chart storage and electronics centre for the boat. VHF is standard and GPS, chart plotter and radar are available as options. The chart table, mounted on the bulkhead at the boat's pitch centre between the hatchways, gives a large working area and excellent visibility for the navigator to keep a safe watch while plotting a course. The Hirondelle Family2's four berths are among the largest afloat in any boat of this size, with a double berth 5 feet wide and quarterberths which have been dubbed "friendly doubles." Night or day, the Hirondelle offers superb accommodation to her crew, making for comfortable extended cruising in coastal or channel waters. The Hirondelle Family2 offers well-founded, affordable family cruising at its best.
