Purbrook Heron Cruising Yacht FOR SALE
"Wingletang" a lifting keel wooden sailboat for sale.
History and Construction -
Rewired 2006 Would have had some internal pig iron too. Built in the UK in 1960 as a family cruiser of shoal draft. Suitable for coastal cruising with two adults and up to two children. Planked in 11/16" mahogany on oak, with an Iroko keel. Steel centreplate. Strongly built to take the ground. This yacht had the external hull paintwork stripped off two years ago, and all was found to be in sound condition. The topsides are currently painted pale blue colour. The deck is now marine plywood with treadmark non-slip upper surface. (Original deck was apparently larch frames with canvas covered pine boards)
"Wingletang" has been with the current owner since 2006 and the previous owner had major refurbishment carried out, including renewing the wiring, the internal fittings, and not forgetting the new Yanmar. The engine sits at the companionway, and is the popular 1GM Yanmar diesel, with light usage by the current owners.
The interior has the galley to port of the companionway, and a varnished dining table with folding leaf sits centrally in the cabin. This also houses the winch for the centreplate. The toilet is under a wooden locker forward, and the bunks are either side. The chain locker is visible in the forepeak. Some paint has been stripped from both port and starboard cabin sides, as seen in the photos. The current owners have started to prepare for internal painting, which has not been completed. The bunk cushions were not seen on board, but are blue in colour and in very good condition. The mast and boom were re-varnished last year before being stored under cover.
The deep cockpit is varnished wood with the external woodwork all in teak. All hatches and trims are apparently teak, this being different from most of the other boats of this class. The original builders normally used mahogany, but this boat got special treatment and a supply of well seasoned teak was found to complete the upperworks.
Comments -This Purbrook Heron yacht does handle nicely in a sea, according to the current owners, who compliment the boat's Scandinavian style stern. They had the beaching legs made so that they could take advantage of drying moorings. "Wingletang" is a surprisingly spacious boat inside, ideal for a couple. Take advantage of the boat having been refurbished in 2006, and now available at a very reasonable price. A good looking small yacht, with split deck and raised forward giving more room down below and drier decks in a sea. If you want a pretty yacht then look no further.
