On her appearance in 1937 Ortac set a standard for first-class ocean racing and her design remains to this day an all time classic. During a long and successful career her name became one of the best known in the Ocean Racing fleet. After winning the RORC championship in 1937Ortac went on to win most of her starts. In 1953 she raced under the flag of the Hamburg Nautical School before going on to take part in the 1966 Transatlantic Race. In 1970 Ortac won the Cowes Week Championship.
Much has been written about Ortac over the years. Uffa Fox dedicated a chapter in his 1937 book Racing Cruising and Design and the Yachting World Annual of 1957 features Ortac.
Built in 1937 for Col. C F King by Morgan Giles of Teignmouth, Ortac set new standards for the day including the first fore-deck pulpit.
Bought by the present owner in 1990 Ortac has been completely refurbished over the past decade in four different stages and is now presented in exceptional condition throughout and is a regular sight sailing in the Med.
The mahogany planked hull has been completely re-fastened with bronze nails. New teak deck, new coachroof, new stringers, floors removed, sandblasted and epoxy coated. Interior and systems re-placed and new diesel engine installed.
Comfortable, mahogany fitted accommodation for seven in three cabins. Separate aft cabin with two berths. Saloon with two settee berths and single berth, gimballed table. Galley, heads compartment, chart area, wet locker, sails stowage and double berth fore-cabin.

Mast-head bermudian rig sets 940 sq. ft. plain sail. Aluminium mast and spars. Barlow and Andersen winches, original bronze winches. Electric anchor windlass.
