| The Southerly 42RS can be easily sailed by two people and boasts an impressive sail plan, for powerful windward performance. The Selden tall fractional rig with swept back double spreaders, combines a self tacking furling jib and large mainsail with single line reefing, giving a total sail area of 783 sq ft (72.78m2). For off wind sailing an optional gennaker can be flown from a removable bowsprit. The new hull shape is a further development of Rob Humphreys long pedigree of Southerly hulls. A modern plumb stem increases waterline length and a broad transom maintains volume aft, for performance and interior space. The semi-balanced twin rudders operate within the draught of the canoe body and give instantly responsive steering and precise directional stability. | |||
