Description/Condition

COLUMBIA was the first International Rule Twelve Meter to defend the America’s Cup. Built in 1958 at Nevins for a syndicated headed by Briggs Cunningham, COLUMBIA was designed by Olin Stephens to be a refinement of the famous VIM. COLUMBIA won the highly competitive Cup trials against the VIM by a narrow margin, but went on to defend the Cup against the British challenger SCEPTRE in one of the most decisive victories in yachting history. Today COLUMBIA is the oldest existing yacht to have won the America’s Cup.

COLUMBIA is now part of the Newport, Rhode Island 12 Meter fleet and is used for racing and charters. She has been well maintained and upgraded by her caring owner and knowledgeable captain. In addition to the yacht herself, a container for storing COLUMBIA’s spare gear and sails comes with the yacht.  A tender is available as a separate transaction if desired.  COLUMBIA’s owner would also sell his share in a yacht charter business that specializes in 12 Meter charters.

COLUMBIA won the Ted Hood trophy in 2012 for the best all-around scores for 12-meters as well as most of the regattas in her class. She also won the 2012 N. American Championships, Class 2 at the 2013 New York Yacht Club Regatta, the 2013 Newport Regatta Classic Division, the 2013 Nantucket 12 meter Regatta, 2013 Ted Hood Trophy for Best All Around Season, and took second place at the 2013 Edgartown 12 meter Regatta in the Traditional Class.

COLUMBIA represents an opportunity to acquire one of the most significant yachts in yachting history, and would be a highlight of any classic yacht gathering both for her pedigree and her lovely, classic Olin Stephens lines.
