Description
Once in a long while a sailing craft is conceived that perfectly fits the needs of a large group of sailors. The Tanzer 22 is such a boat. Almost 2300 have been launched since 1970 and a strong Class Association with over 700 members operates in both Canada and the US. The Tanzer 22 is offered in either a keel centerboard version - for the skipper who likes to trailer his boat to different locations - or in a fin keel design. The continuing success of the Tanzer 22 results from a unique fusion of elements: she sails fast (exceeding hull speed readily), is very forgiving, and handles like a dinghy. Her cockpit is 7 feet, 9 inches by 6 feet, 3 inches and she sleeps four in a spacious interior. She is self-righting, ruggedly built and - unlike many boats in this size range - has genuine offshore capability with lots of reserve buoyancy. Both models are easily trailed and the shallow draft keel - centerboard facilitates ramp launching and recovery. An optional convertible hatch and hood opens up the interior, giving more than six feet of headroom in the main cabin. The vigorous Class Association promotes one-design racing and cruising throughout the continent. It also controls specifications to prevent obsolescence of older models, thus protecting an owner's investment. The resale value of a Tanzer 22 is remarkably high. As a result of the strong Class organization and the boat's exceptional performance, the Tanzer 22 is the first cruising boat to be invited to the Canadian Olympic Training Regatta, Kingston (CORK), probably the most prestigious international open regatta in North America. The Tanzer 22 is the ideal affordable sailboat for introducing the family to new horizons in cruising and racing.
