Accommodations
The Westerly Ocean 43 has a living space far greater than many boats of the same LOA, with the ideal layout for a cruising couple, with children or visiting guests. The center cockpit is dry, spacious, and comfortable, and affords extra living/dining/entertaining space in all weathers thanks to the bimini and removable full enclosure.

The broad companionway steps with a gentle gradient bring you into the saloon, with a large and comfortable forward-facing nav station to starboard, and a large 68 seat dining area to port. Generous shelving for books, references, and knick-knacks are available on both sides. On the starboard side the large galley stretches aft, with work tops on both inboard and outboard sides. Sinks, stove, and chest freezer are outboard while microwave and refrigerator are inboard.

Aft from the galley lies the impressively large master cabin, centerline full queen berth with custom mattresses, hanging closets, shelving and lockers both sides, and full 6 3 (1.90 m) headroom. The private head and separate shower on the port side are astonishingly large and practical.

Back in the saloon, forward of the nav station is a full-height custom-built closet with tool & small spares drawers. This is a wonderfully practical addition on a blue water cruising boat like Suhaila.

Forward of the saloon area lies the guest cabin, with a generous double V-berth, drawers under, and full-height storage closets and shelving on both sides. The private guest head lies to port and features a combination head/shower, vanity, commode and its own deck hatch and ventilator.

A unique feature of the saloon is the custom-built dining table on a gas strut. This allows the table to be retracted to the seating height, and with the insertion of an additional cushion provides a very comfortable and full-size double berth for the occasional third couple on board.

Full air conditioning (and heat) is installed with two 16,000 BTU water-cooled marine Cruisair units, allowing comfortable living and sleeping in the warmest tropical conditions. Both forward and aft berths also have individual low-consumption electric fans on each side.

A Village Marine Tech watermaker provides 15 US gal/hour of fresh water, driven effortlessly by the generator while charging batteries.

All main ports are Lewmar Atlantic heavy frame/high strength and have OceanAIR SkySol pleated shades. All main hatches are Lewmar Low Profile and have OceanAIR SkyScreen roller shades/insectscreens installed.

Brokers comments
Suhaila is a Westerly Ocean 43, designed by Ron Holland and built in England in a temperature- and humidity-controlled factory. I sold the boat to the first and only owner. Delivered as deck cargo from the UK in 2000 to Texas, she has since sailed the Gulf of Mexico, Florida & Bahamas, and the Eastern Caribbean.

During the last five years she has been carefully stored on the hard in Grenada in a custom-built cradle for safety during hurricane season while the owners returned home. Much of the ongoing maintenance work has been carried out by the skilled professionals and craftsmen of Grenada Marine Services. Upgrades and maintenance since manufacture to a high level of blue-water cruising spec have been lovingly carried out by the owners and under the owners close supervision.

Now lifestyle and family changes have led the owners to sell Suhaila.

Owners comments
Sailing a blue-water cruising boat in the lush tropical waters of the Leewards & Windwards is always an incredible experience. But sailing Suhaila here is beyond incredible. In steady Trades from 12 to well over 20 knots, Suhaila performs like a well-bred racehorse. Her tall not-quite masthead (15/16) rig, blade genoa sheeted well inboard, and fully-battened main with a fair roach, drive her powerfully through the regular swell. From very broad to very close-hauled, this rig is incredibly performant, much more so than most cruising rigs. The curve of the mainsail is a sight to behold.

Yet she is so easy to handle. All control lines come directly to the cockpit. Reefing and shaking-out reefs can be done without ever moving more than a few feet from the wheel, well inside the safety and comfort of the cockpit. Even when the genoa is deeply furled, the sail shape is still close to ideal, as there is no large cruising genoa area to roll up, crease and destroy laminar airflow.

Even when the huge asymmetrical cruising chute is deployed, requiring a little foredeck work with the sock, it is still possible to control halyard, tack line and sheet from the cockpit.

Truly an unusually powerful, beautiful, and practical cruising boat, designed by Ron Holland, built by Westerly, rigged by Seldn, and with sails artfully cut and sewn by Phil Hyde.
