It took over a 100 years to bring her into being. Some of the most brilliant boat design minds are melded into this final product - a Westsail 32. It all started with a 19th century Colin Archer design of the 47' Norwegian pilot boat Regis Voyager, it progressed in the 1920's when William Atkins reduced and refined Archer's design for his 32' designs Eric and Thistle. In the 1960's the famous naval architect W.I.B. "Bill" Crealock was commissioned to take the wooden Thistle's lines and convert them for fiberglass construction. The design became the Kendall 32. Snider and Lynne Vick purchased the tooling for the Kendall 32 after the Kendall operation failed and entered bankruptcy and at that time commissioned Crealock once again to redesign a new trunk cabin of which the end product is what is known as the Westsail 32. The Westsail 32's were manufactured in California and in North Carolina. There were nearly 800 W32's built between 1970 to the closing of the business in 1981. They came one of two ways; factory finished or sold as "kits". The W32 ranks as the most popular amateur-built boat ever marketed in this country. The W32 is also the boat that started it all with the marketing slogan "Westsail The World". America now had a boat that was not only affordable but had the capabilities of taking you anywhere your dreams would lead. |

You simply will not find anywhere more accommodating living quarters in any other 32 foot boat. Starting with the forward cabin that features a double berth to port, a single settee to starboard and a filler that can convert the V Berth into one roomy queen size bed! There is access doors to the anchor locker, storage beneath the berth including drawers, and double layer lockers. Aft is the head compartment that has privacy doors to the forward cabin and the main cabin, to port is the head, sink and storage while to starboard is bureau with four drawers, a large hanging locker and storage shelving above. Aft is the salon which features to port a dinette that converts to a double berth and more storage, to port is a pilot berth and a single settee that pulls out to make yet another sleeping berth. Aft port is a nice size user-friendly galley while to starboard is a navigation station featuring a large chart table with storage beneath. You'll find the cockpit to be the proper size for off shore cruising, nice wide side decks for navigating forward in any condition. An extra touch for safety and convenience is the mast steps - trust me, they are one of the smartest additions you can add to a boat! |

The forward cabin features sleeping accommodations that you just can't believe. A double berth on port with a single on starboard. Put the filler in and you have more room than you and your partner can fill! No cramped sleeping, no being pinned under a bulkhead feeling like you've been "laid to rest". With the overhead opening hatch, two opening ports you have plenty of natural ventilation, natural lighting and stretching room as well. There are two access doors to the anchor locker allowing you plenty of elbow and working room. Beneath the berth is enough storage for several seasons worth of clothing. To port there are two large drawers and a small storage locker beneath, next to them is a large double level locker, and behind them is a sail locker. To starboard is a larger locker beneath with two sets of doors and a sail locker behind, forward is yet another larger sail locker. There is 12v lighting as well. |

The cleverly laid out head compartment consist of a manual flush marine toilet with an 18 gallon bladder, Y-valve for offshore overboard pumpout and deck pumpout.stainless steel sink with hand operated water pump, storage lockers, shelving, a mirror, an opening port, 110v outlet and 12v lighting to port. This section is closed off by two doors that come together, when opened they close off the compartment from the forward cabin and the main cabin. To starboard is the bureau with several drawers, a storage locker beneath, a large hanging locker with shelving on top, an opening port and a fire extinguisher. |

A very accommodating Salon featuring a comfortable dinette to port that converts to a double berth. There are storage lockers behind the dinette as well as below, shelving, more opening ports and a large butterfly hatch overhead. To starboard is a pilot berth with huge and I mean huge storage lockers beneath and a single settee that slides out to make a single berth. There is a Dickinson diesel heater on the bulkhead, more opening ports, 12v lighting as well as 110v outlet. The sole is teak and holly, the interior woodwork is teak. |

The navigation station, located aft and starboard features a large chart table with drawer storage beneath, storage above as well as some instruments. There is a wet locker with shelving, a teak magazine rack, 12v lighting, 110v outlet and of course the opening port. |

The U-Shaped galley located to port features a Shipmate three burner gimbaled propane stove with oven with solenoid switch, a deep stainless steel sink, with a large storage locker next to it, a foot operated water pump, a large top loading ice box, overhead cabinet storage as well as under. The usual opening port, 110v outlet and 12v lighting.
Beneath the companionway steps is the access to the engine compartment. |

I own a Westsail 32 and have for over 20 years. We have day-sailed our W32 in the Chesapeake Bay for years, we have traversed the ICW four times sightseeing, we have spent six months in the Bahamas exploring some of the most beautiful waters in the world and yes, we've sail in the ocean (in some not so nice weather). Will she turn on a dime like a lightweight production boat - of course not. Does she like to sail on a broad reach rather than beating close hauled - (to that I say she's alot like me!). Anyone can be a dreamer -- this boat will make you a doer! Call today for a showing appointment. |
