| Some 200 Mercuries were built of wood between 1940 and 1952. At that time, the Mercury was considered by many to be the best all-around small boat on the market, so investment was made in a fiberglass mold. The Class has grown steadily and the Mercury Class Association has fleets actively sailing from Maine to Florida, with a large number of fleets in the Greater Boston Area.
