Description
Some 200 Mercuries were built of wood between 1940 and 1952. At that time, the Mercury was considered by many to be the best all-around small boat on the market, so investment was made in a fiberglass mold. The Class has grown steadily and the Mercury Class Association has fleets actively sailing from Maine to Florida, with a large number of fleets in the Greater Boston Area. This exceptional sailboat is also used widely for instruction and enjoyment at many camps such as Camp Alton, Camp Avalon, Cape Cod SeaCamps, Camp Belknap, Camp Viking. The Mercury has the balance one would expect from a Sparkman & Stephen's design, and is as fast or faster than most other non-planing boats; stable enough for beginners and lively enough to hold the interest of experienced adults with genoa and spinnakers as options. As in other Cape Cod boats, one can depend on the sturdy construction and fine appearance of this boat. Her fittings are of the highest grade, assuring dependability. Her teak splashboards enhance her beauty and the two air flotation tanks in her fiberglass seats insure safety. These are just a few reasons why the Mercury is such an appealing sailboat. The Mercury is available as either a keel or a centerboard boat with the price the same for both.
