Classic Wood-boat ambience -- looks and feels like a classic '50's or '60's sweet-sheerline, long-overhang cruiser, yet she has the low-maintenance of an all-fiberglass hull! Just-completed: complete re-manufacture of the spruce main and mizzen masts, to highest quality. This boat has only one owner, her builder.  It is the well-known Spencer 42 fiberglass hull (42 feet on-deck) with bowsprit extending out to 45 feet.  Full-keel; narrow for her length by today's standards, she's a fast-sailer, showing -- on occasion -- up to ten knots on her paddlewheel knotmeter....  Excellent construction -  a four-year build-project "from the hull up", using the gorgeous teak available at the time (never available again!).   Simple systems aboard, by owner's preference.  Center cockpit gives two widely-separated staterooms, and a very spacious salon.  Solidly built, still water-tight to this day -- and well maintained, this Spencer 45 is ready to go. Sea Star is Spencer's 42' full-keel hull #1 that was finished by its current owner over a period of four years; launched 1969. It has a beautiful teak interior and teak decks. The boat comes with a full deck-house cover for winter layup. It is a center cockpit design ketch with a short bowsprit and very traditional looking cabin top.

Hull is solid-fiberglass, to Spencer's scantlings; external lead ballast attached with 1" SSTL bolts, still shiny in the DRY bilge!  Rudder attached to aft edge of keel, Two-blade prop hides in aperture (minimal drag under sail)

Side-decks are 13/16 solid teak planks laid in Thiokol over laminated marine plywood sub-deck, glued with staggered overlaps.

Cabintop is fiberglass over three-layer laminated marine plywood, glued from 3 x 1/4" with staggered overlaps - essentially "monocoque".  Aluminum-framed deck-hatches.

Cabin sides are 2 1/4" thick solid teak; large salon windows of safety-glass are laid into (not atop) the construction. Four opening portlights; three to forepeak stateroom, one to head.  Two ventilation dorades with tall scoops.

Cockpit is fabricated of marine plywood, all fiberglassed


Coming down the companionway, the galley is to port and nav station to starboard. Forward of the nav station is a settee with a dinette opposite. forward of the dinette on the port side is the private head. All the way forward is the roomy v-berth with teak storage lockers along the hull on both sides. The aft cabin accesses from the cockpit where there is a double berth, stoarge lockers, and room to be comfortable.
