Here's the day we've all been waiting for: the boats equivalent of "5... gold... rings." (If you're just joining us, we've been posting daily 12 days of boating suggestions that have so far covered cuddy cabins, jet boats, motor yachts, and a pontoon in a pear tree.)

We considered several boat types for this red-letter moment of our favorite holiday song, but only one was really "big" enough to fill the void. So we give you the fifth day of boating—please sing along.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me

5 Mega Yachts

4 cuddy cabins
3 jet boats
2 motor yachts

...and a Pontoon in a Pear Tree.

5 megayachts at Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Fort Lauderdale is one of the few places in the world where 5 megayachts can be captured in one frame. Photo: Paul Cronin Studios

Megayachts (also known as superyachts or luxury yachts) are motor yachts that form a special league of their own. Popular in warm water ports like the Med and the Caribbean, they are a "necessory" of the rich and famous lifestyle to which so many aspire. Most are, of course, at least semi-custom to accommodate the specific whims the rest of us don't have the money to indulge. (For any of you contemplating a megayacht build, read this first.)

Most of our megayacht stories are published on YachtWorld, but here's a link to stories we've published recently about megayachts on boats.com.

If you're looking for one to buy, view megayacht listings on YachtWorld.

Make sure to come back tomorrow to see what day 6 will bring... we promise it will bring us back down to the sea level of affordable boating.

Editor's Note:  (Are you tired of 12 Days of whatever by now?) Most of the holiday countdowns ended on December 25, but we chose to begin ours on that date in keeping with tradition. Stay tuned for more new and used boats to gawk at, ogle over, dream about—and maybe even buy. Because what better gifts could the wise men bring you than a platform for your next boating adventure?
