Get ready to be wowed. In just a few days, Miami and Miami Beach will turn the focus on boats and boating, and we’ll be there to cover it all. Here’s a quick preview of what we’re hoping to see at the show.

The Seven Marine team mounts 557 motors on the Intrepid 370 Cuddy at the 2012 Miami Boat Show.

With alternative energy on everyone’s mind, we’re looking forward to inspecting firsthand two new electric outboards: a 50HP model from Torqeedo, which won the overall design award at DAME in Amsterdam, and ReGen Nautic’s 180HP version which they claim is the most powerful electric outboard in the world. Writer Charles Plueddeman will be checking on those and reporting back on whether they live up to the pre-show hype.

Also on the long list of Plueddeman to-dos is to learn more about a 9.9-hp propane outboard, the largest of its kind, which expands the propane power offerings introduced in 2012.

And we’ll definitely be checking out the pair of 7 Marine’s outboards that will team up to total 1,114 horsepower. Their impressive display last year was the talk of the 2012 show.

Thinking about going to the show yourself? Here are a few reasons to consider it. In addition to boat shopping and various DIY booths, Bear Grylls, host of Discovery’s Man vs. Wild, will be debuting a line of RIBs. And one very lucky attendee will go home with a Carolina Skiff JVX 16CC Center Console with motor and trailer, courtesy of Carolina Skiff and the Billfish Foundation, who are helping show site The Big Game Room celebrate a decade as the world's premiere sport fishing expo.
