Known for building custom high-performance 50-foot catamarans for offshore powerboat racing and pleasure use, Mystic Powerboats of Deland, Fla., will build the first Hermes and Zeus IF 60 luxury performance yacht. The 60-footer, which will include master and guest staterooms, was designed by Theodoros Fotiadis.
“When I started looking for the ideal boat builder I had a couple of names in my mind, but then I contacted my friend Stu Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club,” said Fotiadis. “He told me he immediately thought of John Cosker of Mystic, as John has built a few custom performance yachts. I contacted John when we were working on the initial planning of the boat.
“John is capable of meeting all of our expectations, from hitting deadlines to immaculate hull construction, finishing, and detailing—all that without flaws,” he continued. “Add to that his supportive and professional spirit, and you know you will get a top machine from John and his team at Mystic.”
Cosker, whose most recent contract-build jobs have included the custom GTMM 39 V-bottom introduced at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show, the redesigned Powerplay 38-footer released at last month’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and ten Powerboat P1 USA raceboats this year, said he is looking forward to tacking the construction of another high-performance yacht. Similar projects on Cosker’s resume include high-performance 55- and 70-footers.
“We’re still waiting for the first order for the IF 60, but we think it’s going to be a great project,“ said Cosker.
According to Fotiadis, the 60-footer will top out at 104 mph with base power, which means twin 1,600-hp turbocharged MTU diesel engines. With twin 2,200-hp turbine engines, the yacht is capable of reaching 200 mph, according to the designer.
