Every so often, trolling through the vast archive of stories on boats.com, I find a real treasure. This Throwback Thursday is only five years old, but it seems like a lifetime ago. Because back in 2009, John Burnham found the time for a walk on the beach and a sail at the Miami Boat Show. And then he found more time to write about it.

Morris 29 bow under sail Biscayne Bay

Here's proof that Editorial Director John Burnham fit in a sail on a Morris 29 during the 2009 Miami Boat Show.

In a post entitled Drawn to the Water, published six weeks after he joined Dominion Marine Media as Editorial Director, John reminds us to "Get on the water when you can, but a walk on the beach is a good substitute." Now that I've been to the Miami show a few times, I appreciate this perspective. There is so much to see, so many people to meet, and so much going on, it's easy to forget about the beach that meets the ocean only a few steps from the Convention Center.

It's even easier to forget that Biscayne Bay, one of my favorite places in the world to sail, is only a few miles south. That same trip, John managed to fit in an afternoon sail on a Morris 29, so as you might expect, most of the post is about the boat. But when he got home from the show, he still wrote a full review.

For better or worse, these days John is too busy to write blog posts and boat reviews. Instead he spends his time herding his editorial "cats," as well as planning new projects that will improve the visibility of our content and forge more reader-friendly connections between content and listings. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
