In his opening remarks to the crowd gathered on the docks in Fort Lauderdale, company president Tom Slikkers elicited grins from those gathered.
“This is not my father’s Tiara,” said Tom, whose father, Leon Slikkers, founded the company and the Tiara brand that has come to be renown in cruising circles as a premium build. “I say that with tongue in cheek and with no disrespect for the Tiaras that have come before this one,” he said. “The 50 Coupe is simply the evolution of the brand.”

As it turns out, the 50 Coupe has the essential DNA of a classic Tiara. It has sophisticated engineering and systems, fine finish, and what is reported to be a solid and seaworthy ride. However, the 50 is a departure from the previous models in the family for its styling. This luxury family cruiser is less traditional in its lines, features and layout, and ultimately, more contemporary. The thoroughly modern looks will satisfy the demands of a new generation of Tiara owners. “The Tiara 50 Coupe is revolution in design and it’s poised to become the new standard for the 50-foot luxury yachting market,” said David Glenn, marketing director for S2 Yachts.
When building the 50, one of S2’s goals was to create the most nimble yacht in its class. To that end, the company says this coupe with two cabins will cruise comfortably at 27 knots while delivering a top end of 34 knots at WOT. That performance comes with a pair of 725-hp 950 Volvo Penta IPS II drives. Other notable features include an integrated windshield and custom composite hardtop with pneumatic retractable sun roof, oversized cockpit, and integrated 70-inch swim platform. At the helm, the Tiara is one of the first models in its class to feature the Volvo Penta/Garmin Glass Cockpit integrated electronics package.
The 50 Coupe will pave the way for a completely new series of Coupe and Flybridge models in the luxury Tiara Yachts line. Keep an eye out for the complete review here on boats.com.
Also on display at the S2 booth was the Pursuit series. That line-up includes the award-winning SC 365i. The Dual Console series was also on display, and the builder announced plans to expand that series of multipurpose family boats with a new DC 265 scheduled to launch in 2014.
