Recognised as one of the most sophisticated, futuristic and cosmopolitan cities in the world, Dubai has only recently had a luxury marina development. Dubai Marina is right in the heart of the city within a few minutes walk of the Dubai International Marine Club, the venue for the Dubai International Boat Show (March 1-5). Dubai Marina boasts six apartment buildings, collectively known as Dubai Marina Towers. Surrounding the accommodation is the Marina Walk, an oasis of trees, flowers, restaurants and boutiques, which is close to the boardwalk and waterfront.

The heart of Dubai Marina is the private Dubai Marina Yacht Club. Visitors who wish to dine there are most welcome and members can sign in family, friends and business associates. The Dubai Motor Yacht Club provides a stunning purpose-built clubhouse and four marinas with five-star service. There are fully licensed facilities including, a café bistro and a fine restaurant, specializing in seafood. Other facilities include a sport bar, terrace, cigar lounge and a library overlooking the marina. More importantly, the members and guests can take refuge from the buzz of Dubai in the company of like-minded maritime enthusiasts.

One of the most popular and fashionable bars in Dubai is Barasti, which is located in Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Resort, immediately adjacent to the Dubai International Marine Club. Recently refurbished and extended, the venue has a Polynesian theme on two levels, including a sports bar and an alfresco deck where guests can chill out on floor cushions with a shisha, the traditional Arabic water pipe. International cuisine is available from noon until midnight. By evening, Barasti becomes a very lively dance club with DJs turning up the heat until the early hours of the morning.

The Abu Dhabi Yacht Show (24-26 March) is an invitation only event, displaying some of the world's most exclusive yachts. It is a venue where leading members of the industry, as well as owners and their representatives, gather to network and broker some of the biggest deals in the superyacht world.

Yas Island Marina is a futuristic development in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The Formula One track runs under the Yas Marina Hotel, which has a superb restaurant overlooking the circuit. Rock legends and contemporary bands play regular gigs at the marina and the 18-hole golf course was recently voted the best in the UAE.

Ferrari World is right next to the marina; the park hosts more than 20 unique rides and attractions for visitors of all ages and interests, including the world’s fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa.

Just outside Yas Marina are mangrove forests and Abu Dhabi’s complex of 200 untouched islands. All are within easy reach of the marina, which offers a wide variety of boat charter. Great flamingos are a common sight, as are cormorants and cranes. Other aquatic life includes the rare and beautiful dugong and the hawksbill turtle.

13 different species of dolphin live in the waters of Abu Dhabi and recently a Bottlenose Dolphin was sighted in Yas Marina during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Obviously Flipper is a race fan.
