Recent holiday sojourns from one Atlantic coast to another, from the shores of the Seine to the canals of Amsterdam, reminds me of the ubiquity and diversity of boats. Not to mention their appeal, whether for rowing, fishing, or living aboard.

My first city visit was to New York in late November. On Thanksgiving Day, the temperatures rose to 60F and the rental rowboats were out in force. A few weeks later in Brittany, the sun shone on us but temperatures were dramatically lower.

As I write, the London Boat Show is bearing down on us, and we're amidst England's worst snowstorm in 30 years (so they say). Assuming there will be transportation to London, we'll have more boats to follow this weekend.
