German production boatbuilder Bavaria Yachts is launching the first in a series of racer cruisers: the 38 Match. This is a significant departure from Bavaria, who are best noted for solid cruising boats that are often compared to the Nautor Swan line (albeit at a significantly lower price point). To advance this new direction, Bavaria has used the services of one of the world's foremost racing boat designers: Doug Peterson.
The 38 Match represents the middle size of the new line; the Bavaria Match 34 and 41 will be introduced at Boot Dusseldorf 17 - 24 January.
The 38 Match's uncluttered cockpit area has been designed for easy sail handling and crew work with the racing open transom providing efficient self-draining in heavy weather.
The new 38 Match has a fractional rig and a comprehensive set of racing specifications. These include a choice of aluminium or carbon fibre, keel stepped mast; rod rigging; lowered toe rail aft for comfortable sitting out; Harken Quatro winches and deck gear; spectra halyards; spinlock halyard stoppers; a carbon wheel; ergonomic helmsman's seat providing excellent visibility past the crew position; and a deep, elliptical balanced rudder with stainless steel duplex shaft and self-adjusting pendulum bearings,
Power to and from the race area is provided by the Volvo Penta MD 2030 29hp engine with sail drive and folding propeller which ensures minimum drag when sailing.
The interior of the Bavaria 38 Match includes a choice of 2 or 3 cabin layouts, sleeping up to 8 people. The saloon features a comfortable settee for dining around a removable saloon table. The navigation area features a full chart table with generous instrument space and chart stowage.
For customers whose comfortable cruising requirements exceed their racing needs, and yet still enjoy a fast cruiser, Bavaria will continue to provide an extensive range of optional comforts; such as teak decks, hot water, showers, refrigerators, and much more.
The yacht will be first seen at the Southampton Boat Show and will be priced at ?70,500 excluding VAT, sails and spinnaker pole.
