In case you missed it, yesterday we kicked off the first installment of this two-part series on what to see from the go-fast world at the 2013 Miami International Boat Show. But the coverage of new output from Formula, Cigarette, Mercury Racing, Outerlimits, Statement, Sunsation, and Baja are not the whole story, not by a long shot. As I wrote yesterday, this year’s show will feature some of the coolest and most-anticipated high-performance powerboat hardware in the history of the event. So with no further ado, let’s get right back to it.

30-foot Skater

This white-hot 30-footer will be among the Skater cats showcased in Miami.

1. Skater Going Big and Small. Just outside the convention center—usually in the first row—the Douglas Marine/Skater display always presents a seriously wicked array of exotic go-fast catamarans. This year, the Douglas, Mich., builder is showcasing big and small models that include a “Fat Boy” 30-footer with twin 1,000-plus-hp supercharged engines and Arneson ASD-7 drives , an open-cockpit 38-footer, a hardtop 38-footer, and a 50-footer. All three of the larger boats will have twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines under their hatches. On hand to greet the Skater faithful will be Peter Hledin,  founder of the company and the designer of all Skater cats, and Tommy Hofstetter of South Florida Skater dealer skaternation.

2. Nor-Tech Bringing a Fleet. This year, Nor-Tech will have custom go-fast boats at the convention center and in the water at Sea Isle Marina, which really presents the best of both worlds for performance-oriented show goers. The display at the convention will feature the Cape Coral, Fla., custom boat builder’s center console line and will include the all-new 344 GT, a 340 Sport, and an all-new 392 Super Fish. The cool stuff in the water includes a 340 Sport Open, another 392 Super Fish, a Yanmar diesel-powered 420 Monte Carlo, and a 477 with twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines. Hot tip for those in search of Nor-Tech demo rides? Hit Sea Isle Marina early before the crowds get there, as the Nor-Tech in-water display is always among the most popular during the Miami event .

3. Deep Impact Going Small. High-performance custom center consoles are the only boats that Deep Impact of Miami offers, and until recently that meant 36- and 39-footers in various configurations. Debuted at the 2012 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, the company’s latest model, dubbed the 33 LS, will be on display for a larger audience in the convention center. The 33-footer  is powered by twin 300-hp Mercury Verado outboard engines, and, like  its larger sibling, rides on a stepped hull created by John Cosker of Mystic. If the 33 LS is anything like the other members of its family, it’s certain to be a strong and attractive performer.

4. At Last—The DCB M41. Never has a West Coast custom high-performance boat been more eagerly awaited at the Miami Boat Show than the new M41 from Dave’s Custom Boats in El Cajon, Calif. The 41-footer, the largest in DCB’s “Widebody” series of catamarans, took significantly longer to complete than company principal Dave Hemmingson anticipated, but that’s OK. The results, which reportedly are stunning—the boat has already topped 175 mph with twin Mercury Racing 1350 engine power—speak for themselves. West Coast go-fast boat lovers got a chance to check it out at the recent Los Angeles Boat Show, but now their East Coast brethren get to take a gander at it in the Miami Convention Center. And those who participate in the Miami Boat Show Poker Run the following weekend actually will get to see the cat in action.

5. MTI Throwing Change-Ups. If you follow the happenings at Marine Technology, Inc., in Wentzville, Ill., you know the company debuted the prototype of its new center console—the custom builder’s first V-bottom—at the 2012 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. But “prototype” and “finished product” are two different things, and the public will get its first peek at the latter in the convention center during the Miami show. As for the prototype, it will be in the water at Sea Isle Marina for demo rides. As if that weren’t enough to please MTI fans, the builder will unveil its new 38-foot catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines in the convention center. And that’s not all—MTI will have another new “theme model” debut at the show in the convention, but beyond that company principal Randy Scism isn’t talking.

6. Hustler Bringing a Fleet—And a Surprise. Hustler Powerboats of Calverton New York is displaying a combination of existing models, improved models, and new models at the convention center and on the water at the Miami Show next week. In the water, the company will have its existing 39- and 50-foot V-bottoms. On the new side of the Hustler line there's the Mercury Racing 565 engine-powered 388 Reloaded and another new model that company principal Joe LoGiudice will only describe as a “game changer.” Translation? If you want to see it, as well as the 388, you have to show up at the Hustler booth outside the convention center.

7. And Of Course There Are Parties. Go-fast boat lovers go home grumpy—and trust me, I get it—if there isn’t a least one good party where they can hang out with their fellow enthusiasts during the Miami show. This year there are two major shindigs, and they’re both co-sponsored by the Florida Powerboat Club and The first is Friday night, Feb. 15, at the Raleigh Hotel, and it’s the annual FPC Boat Show Bash. The second is Saturday night, Feb. 16,’s debut Miami Show event at a South Beach hotspot called Tequila Chicas.
