The new 2017 Prestige Yachts 630 is part of the newly formed Prestige “Yachts” division and marks the entry point to vessels that currently range up to 75 feet. The new group is in line with Beneteau and Jeanneau’s segmentation strategy that differentiates all their models above 60 feet by adding “yachts” to the brand name. The Prestige brand is 20 years old and over 2,500 hulls from 35 to 75 feet have been built. There is a longevity here that suggests there’s been time for refinement, and that’s most certainly reflected in the Prestige 630. Join us for a quick tour, and see for yourself.
Adopting the innovations by Garroni Design, the 630 is distinctive inside and out. The hard-chine hull was designed from scratch to accommodate Volvo Penta IPS 950 pod drives so there was no shoehorning of modern technology into an older hull. The pods allow for smaller engines that have better fuel economy and the placement of the engines is farther aft in the hull, which creates room for a better layout.
The divided floor plan is also a standout feature. For maximum privacy, the master stateroom has its own completely isolated access. Curved steps lead down from the galley behind the starboard side settee to a luxurious, full-beam master with a centerline queen bed and a portside lounge that includes two seats and a vanity table next to a large window. Stowage options are ample and the posh head with a separate stall shower is nearly the size of one at home. This kind of separation for owner’s accommodations is rare, until you step up into superyacht territory.
Designer-inspired décor includes leather accents and fabric finishes on walls and other surfaces, and a neutral color palette of mix-and-match mineral shades speaks to today’s style-conscious boater. Functionality is hidden, whether it’s camouflaging switches and charging ports, hiding soft lighting behind valences and under furniture edges, or having full covers for the galley module on the flybridge. Prestige recognizes that amenities are not enough, it’s their presentation that is also important, and trend-aware owners will not be disappointed.
Other Choices: Yachts shoppers in this range may look at the slightly larger Sea Ray L650, or they may look slightly smaller at the L590. The Princess 60 or the Cruisers Yachts 60 Cantius could also be of interest.
