Sea Ray could have stood pat with its 2003 lineup of Sport Boats, Sport Cruisers, Sport Yachts, and Yachts, and the company still would have offered the broadest line of powerboats in the industry. But that's just not the style of Knoxville, Tenn.-based boat builder. For 2004, the company is rolling out five new models. With the additions, the company will have 39 boats in its line.
Here's a quick look at the new-for-2004 models. Some will be displayed at the Miami Boat International Boat Show February 12-17, others will go into full production as mid-model-year releases.
185 Outboard Sport
Offered standard with a 185-hp Mercury outboard engine, the 185 joins Sea-Ray's 15-model Sport Boat series. The open-bow model, which is 18' feet long and has a 7'6" beam, is offered with three different seating plans, as well as a fish-and-ski package. Standard features include a Clarion CD stereo system, a painted trailer with a swing-tongue for garage storage, stainless-steel hardware and an in-sole ski locker with rubber matting to protect wakeboards and water-skis.
Slightly sleeker than the 225 Weekender in Sea Ray's Sport Boat line, the new 215 Weekender has a complete cabin with a V-berth that converts to a dining area and a fiberglass head compartment with a privacy curtain. Short story: The 215 Weekender's cabin, unlike those found in similar-size models, actually is functional and comfortable for full-size adults. Standard power for the boat, which is 22' long and has an 8'6" beam, is a 220-hp MerCruiser 5.0L engine with an Alpha drive.
390 Sundancer and 420 Sedan Bridge
Joining Sea Ray's Sport Yacht line in mid-2004 is the 390 Sundancer. It will be the middle sibling in Sundancer series — in the sultry Sport Yacht category — that ranges from 36' to 46' long. Look for more details about this model this model on boats.com later in the year.
Also new for 2004 in the Sport Yacht series is the 420 Sedan Bridge. The layout for this 45'5"-long beauty with a 14'3" beam includes an expansive bridge with panoramic views, a lower bridge, a salon with cherry or maple finishes, two staterooms with their own heads (the forward stateroom's head is adjoining) and an aft entertainment area with a U-shaped lounge. Base power is a pair of 420-hp 6CTA 8.3M Cummins MerCruiser diesel inboard engines. Standard upscale amenities include air-conditioning and heating systems, a microwave/convection oven and refrigerator freezer in the galley, and a central vacuum system.
550 Sedan Bridge
Slated for release in the middle of this year is 550 Sedan Bridge, a substantial addition to Sea Ray's six-model — with the release of the new 550 — Yacht series. The 550 will be Sea Ray's second largest Sedan Bridge offering, the first being the popular 560. Look for more details about this model this model on boats.com later in the year.
