Sunreef Yachts has met with success in the multihull market by making the most of a catamaran’s beamy accommodations, with introductions like their latest power cat, the Sunreef 60, and their newest sailing catamaran, the Sunreef 82 Double Deck. It has even oversome a long-standing problem with some catamarans, that of cramped conditions in the pontoons. Indeed, from 58 feet on up into megayacht territory, Sunreef Yachts’ semi-custom and custom yachts in both power and sail models dot both sides of the Atlantic. With the Sunreef 80 Carbon Line, Sunreef Yachts strengthens its position among builders of big boats.
A good turn of speed often comes from weight control, so to that end, Sunreef Yachts employed carbon fiber and composite construction. The mast and boom are also made of carbon fiber, hence “Carbon Line” for the model name. The yacht further has a sleek structure intended to reduce windage and water resistance. The total sail area of the Sunreef Carbon Line 80 is nearly 3,660 square feet. The mainsail and genoa employ Vectran fabric, which is known for durability and is often found on performance yachts. The gennaker is made of Cuben Fiber, a lightweight material touted by many multi-hull designers and builders. Meanwhile, 12 load pins on the mast and rigging feed data to the display at the helm, which is then transmitted back to the shipyard, to use for designing and building future rigs.
There’s plenty of space to lounge, dine, or simply enjoy cocktails up on the bridge. The seats surrounding the table double as sunpads. For flexibility, especially in inclement weather, the Sunreef 80 Carbon Line contains an inside helm as well as one on the flying bridge. There are steps down to the galley, located in the port-side hull yet not walled off, so as to feel cramped.
The master stateroom is fully forward on the main deck, tucked to starboard of the helm. This is the first time that Sunreef has positioned the master on the main deck aboard one of its single-level catamarans. (Sunreef also has the Double Deck models including the 82 mentioned earlier, which offer a balcony-like area above the main interior deck.) Three guest staterooms are aboard the first 80, Levante, as per the owner’s request. Grown-up couples can enjoy a cabin, just down the hall from a triple-berth kids’ cabin. The latter has bunks and a single. Both have en suite facilities and are located in the starboard-side hull. Another double is in the port-side hull.
While the Sunreef 80 Carbon Line is semi-custom, and you therefore can arrange things as you wish, the shipyard is adept at making the most of the available space. The galley, for example, designed in the same contemporary color scheme as the rest of the yacht, actually looks larger than those aboard some monohull 80-footers.

Sailing yachts often excel in either light or heavy air, but Levante’s owner wanted a catamaran capable of rising to both. He also wanted a catamaran that could be pushed to perform. Sunreef Yachts says the 80 Carbon Line can easily achieve 15 knots under sail and climb past a 20-knot top speed. And while performance catamarans are new territory for Sunreef Yachts, the builder remains undaunted. After all, it has built more than 60 cats in its 10-year history, each essentially breaking down barriers. Add strong after-sales service and even yacht management, and you understand why clients are quite satisfied.
