November got off to a rough start for a yacht named Kahu in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Kahu destroyed by fire

The Nordhavn 76 Kahu was completely destroyed by fire in a Cowes marina.

A fire broke out midday, and though the surrounding boats were quickly moved, Kahu could not be saved. She sank in her slip after giving off enough smoke to keep the locals inside.

The Nordhavn 76 was for sale and one of the larger yachts in the marina.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed, which took 30 firefighters to bring under control. A video and many photos can be found on the Daily Mail website.

Justin Harden, Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service incident commander, said at the time that the fire "remains a complex incident and we anticipate being on site for some time."

Fortunately the 9,000 liters of fuel aboard Kahu were not spilled. And just a few days ago, the yacht was raised again with a crane and airbags and taken to Portsmouth, UK, where the owner and broker will make a decision about whether she is worth further salvage efforts.
