Yamaha WaterCraft Group just revealed its 2013 model line, and it includes a new high-performance 19-foot boat model, the SX192, which will be powered by a single supercharged 1.8-liter engine and Yamaha jet drive. The SX192 is based on the 19-foot 2-inch SX190, an entry-level model introduced last season. That boat is powered by the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, but it is not equipped with the supercharger. Yamaha does not publish horsepower ratings for these engines, but it’s generally acknowledged that the base 1.8-liter engine makes about 160 horsepower, while the supercharged version, which is also used in some Yamaha WaveRunner models, makes about 230 horsepower. This is the first time Yamaha has used the supercharged engine in one of its sport boats.

The new SX192 will be the first Yamaha sport boat powered by a supercharged engine.

Yamaha claims the new SX192 will top 50 mph and offer better towing performance than the SX190, which is good for about 43 mph. Yamaha is also pitching the SX192 as a premium model, with an upgraded dash, a high-output Clarion audio system, bimini top, Hydro Turf deck mat on the aft platform, and a trailer. The base price will be $28,999. There will also be a watersports version of the boat called the AR192, which will include an aluminum wakeboard tower and different colors and graphics, priced at $30,999.

We’ll publish a full report on the SX192 after a test session scheduled for mid-September.

The SX192 features Yamaha’s signature two-step transom lounge design, with padded backrests and Hydro Turf matting.

More Yamaha Watercraft updates

The new SX192 and AR192 will be two of 23 different boat models offered by Yamaha for 2013. The lines includes the value-priced 19-foot 190 Series, the 21-foot 210 Series, the high-performance 212 Series, and the 24-foot 240-242 Series. All Yamaha boats will have upgraded upholstery and new “teak-pattern” carpet in 2013, and wakeboarding towers will be powdercoated in either black or gray to better match a particular boat color. Pricing ranges from $25,999 to $53,499.

The Yamaha AR192 features a supercharged engine and aluminum towsports tower.

The 2013 Yamaha WaveRunner line is unchanged with the exception of new metallic paint colors.

Yamaha also told me in a recent interview that is has acquired a parcel of property adjacent to its Vonore, Tennessee sport boat manufacturing facility that it will use to expand the plant by 33,000 square feet and increase production capacity by 33 percent. Yamaha claims its boats are the best-selling models in the 19-, 21- and 24-foot fiberglass sport categories, and its sales continue to grow.
