Located in the clear blue waters of St Croix, USVI. The Gulfstar 54 was designed and built by Richard Lazzara, founder and designer of Gulfstar Yachts. Gulfstar commenced building yachts in 1970. Lazzara and Gulfstar designed and built quality power and sail boats from 36 to 68 feet in length. The 54 is known as the Gulfstar sailcruiser. Gulfstar built 23 Sailcruisers between 1985 and 1987. This particular Gulfstar was built in 1987, and benefits from Gulfstar's many years of design and construction expertise across both power and sail boats. Lazzara Yachts is still in business in Florida, now producing impeccable mega-yachts. The Sailcruiser is a medium displacement, twin engine, center cockpit ketch. The current owners have removed the mizzen and now sail her as a sloop, though the mizzen is available. The 54 is characterized by her deck saloon design and fully enclosable fiberglass hardtop with large windows. This 54 has a beuatiful dark blue hull with contrasting white deck and coach house. This Sailcruiser also stands apart due to its extensive, custom built, stainless steel "power tower" and dinghy lift system, designed and installed by the current owner. This includes (2) D400 wind genrators & 1000 wts of solar. The 54's interior offers a very large saloon, three generous staterooms and two full heads each with seperate shower. Her interior teak woodwork and cabinetry is of very high quality. All compartments have beautiful, satin finished teak, with teak and holly sole throughout. Her joinery is first rate, furniture quality, with custom rounded corneres and superior finishing.
Designed by John Alden in 1937 for a discerning owner who wanted an elegant floating home for 2 people able to go anywhere, she became the first pleasure boat ever to be tank tested ! On buying TRADE WIND in 2008, the current owners had a vision to give her everything she needed and deserved having been in commission for a full 70 years. In collaboration with the then still operational J.G. Alden Office in Boston and its head designer Niels Helleberg, they made a plan to make her a model of classic yachting while at the same time meeting the needs of modern lifestyle and seafaring. Rockport Marine in Maine achieved the enormously complex keel up restoration to the exquisite taste and long experience of the new patrons. 3 years in the shed, close to 20,000 miles at sea and several prizes for best restoration, attest to her meeting all these parameters with bravura and TRADE WIND deservedly takes centre stage wherever she goes, piloted so far by the owner couple without additional crew.
Seldom Silent has just arrived in Cortez and is ready to cruise! A Sound Cruiser-Racer Like the axiom says — the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. What is so wholly striking about the Pearson 36 is the size of those parts. The nice thing is that this 36 footer comes in at the performance end of the racer/cruiser spectrum. For example, take a good look at her interior. At each end is a private, well-ventilated double stateroom where berths are 6'6" long and proportionately wide (not the "dollhouse" doubles you so often see where berths are cramped and there's no room for clothes changing). Separating these Pearson-sized private staterooms is a main cabin whose dinette can seat six, while still permitting unimpeded access to the forward cabin. Throughout all areas is an unusual amount of out-of-sight stowage for equipment, food, bedding, and clothing. Certainly not least of those areas where the size fits the need is the 7'6" cockpit. Its uncluttered, curved seating sets new standards for comfort. And unlike the more common T-shaped cockpits, this one gives you a cockpit long enough to sleep in under the stars. The nice thing is, all this 36-footer comes in at the performance end of the racer/cruiser spectrum. Go for it! Pearson Yachts Inc. 1985
