Description
The North Wind 50 can be considered the model that arouses the most interest among experienced cruisers. With the most appreciated length among users, 15.1 meters, and a floating length, not exaggerated, of 11.88 meters, the boat rests on a generous beam of 4.5 meters.
Ā
With this, together with its standard draft of two meters and a load displacement of 14 tons, of which almost five are steel ballast in the keel, it achieves typical family cruising navigation, stable speeds under sail and a passage of waves, even in formed seas, daring and safe thanks to the bow launches and the wet surface of the stern tray.
The central console is one of the novelties in a model of this size, the teak-covered deck and the spacious surfaces available for the bathroom guarantee a smooth family leisure area. All the halyard maneuvers (ropes to raise and lower the sails) are centralized at the foot of the mast, and the work (genoa and main sheets) around the cockpit. All these operations can be carried out by the same skipper without the need for the help of the sailors.
This deck, and the sail plan, bring together all the experience of the Italian Marcelo Penna, commissioned by the shipyard to update this model. The 123 square meters of upwind sails guarantee high speeds and profitable voyages. The design of the superstructure is especially fortunate. The aesthetics of the bus have been avoided, achieving a silhouette in which the exterior height of the cabin is perfectly integrated into the general design of the boat, while achieving wide and safe corridors for movement and maneuvering on deck.
The aft bathing platform, sober and well designed, facilitates access, from an annex, thanks to its two steps and the practicable portal on the aft balcony. Finally, the interiors have a cabin aft, with a bathroom for the owner, and two more cabins, one with bunk beds, in the bow area. The kitchen is located in the hallway that goes from the living room to the main cabin. The chart and navigation table and the interior steering (optional) are in the living room, which has sufficient ceiling height.
