  2. Herreshoff Fish Class

    Herreshoff Fish Class

    Sakonnet Harbor, Rhode Island
    1916
    $44,900

SEA ROBIN (HMCo #807) was commissioned in 1916 by Bertram G. Work as SARDINE and built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, RI.   She was purchased by JP Morgan in 1917, renamed SEA ROBIN and presented to his son Junius upon his return from Europe following his service in WW I.  The half model shown came with the boat at the time of its delivery. SEA ROBIN is one of only 23 boats in the original Seawanhaka fleet, and of those 23 boats only 9 are extant and can be traced back to their original hull number.  This is a rare opportunity indeed! The Fish Class is and enlarged version of the ubiquitous Herreshoff 12 ½, with the same virtues of stability, rough water ability, good looks, and excellent handling characteristics. While she is only 4’ longer than the 12 ½, she has twice the displacement and thus, in real terms, is twice as big.  The Fish is generally a fine, handy, compact boat that will keep the sailing fun even when conditions are less than optimum. She will sail fast at moderate angles of heel, and like her smaller cousins features a large, deep cockpit that will be reassuring for folks of all ages and will be particularly good for couples with small children. For the more adventurous, SEA ROBIN is equipped with a small galley, bunks, and a full cockpit tent for cruising - which the current owners have done regularly.  The cuddy cabin allows for storage space and some privacy for use of a head or bucket.  She also comes with a 2hp auxiliary outboard motor.  SEA ROBIN was rebuilt in the 1980's by Ed McClave and Ben Philbrick. She is marconi rigged and will be sailing this summer.

  6. Herreshoff New York 30

    Herreshoff New York 30

    Bristol, Rhode Island
    1905
    $390,000

Commissioned by members of the New York Yacht Club and designed and built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, the New York 30’s were launched in 1905 and quickly became the most significant and beloved one-design class in the history of the New York Yacht Club. Their impact on the yachting world has been extensive and the individual histories of each yacht, remarkable. Today many continue their racing careers throughout New England and the Mediterranean. NY-30 #12 ROWDY was completely rebuilt in 2011-2014 in Bristol, RI to the highest yacht standard.  She has been faithfully restored to original Herreshoff specifications and configurations and is now as strong or stronger then when originally launched.    The restoration included the replacement of 95% of the frames and floor timbers, all deck beams and deck, a complete new cabin house, new hatches, a complete new interior to the layout of 1905, and new rig.  (gaff rig design of 1905 but with the improved spar design of 1917),  Further improvements include hollow spars and diesel engine installation. All fasteners in ROWDY are new Silicon Bronze. All wood used in the restoration is as specified in the original Herreshoff scantlings with the exception of adding ¼ Okoume Plywood to the decks for strength, water tightness and longevity. ROWDY is currently stored indoors and ready for commissioning.  A full survey and detailed description of the rebuild are available upon request.   Shipping to Europe available.

  7. Herreshoff 58

    Herreshoff 58

    La Ciotat, France
    1962
    $340,397

Classic lovers welcome! This Herreshoff 58 ketch was built in 1962 by Astilleros Mallorca (Mallorca, Spain) with drawings from 1931. The yacht completed a circumnavigation and a half over several decades with its original owner and his family. She was totally refitted by Charpentiers Reunis Méditerrannee at La Ciotat over a period of three years from 2011 and re-launched in April 2014. In 2013 the wood above the waterline, Oregon pine, and below the waterline, Iroko planking, was replaced as well as the oak wood for the frame steam and the Teak for the deck. The deck is totally new as well as the superstructure. Two new SOLE 42 HP diesel engines, stainless steel fuel and water tanks were installed in 2014 followed by all new electronics, batteries and safety equipment. The chainplates and steel reinforcements were replaced by stainless steel. Main mast and mizzen mast are original as are all the bronze winches. The interior has been progressively outfitted since 2014. The salon, two pilot berths, chart table and galley furniture are in place and now need to be finished. The master stateroom forward (queen double to port and single bunk to starboard) and bathroom with large shower and sink are installed and finished. A marine toilet needs to be installed in the head compartment and the aft stateroom furniture needs to be outfitted. The main electrical switchboard and wiring were completed in 2017. All plumbing is operational and includes fresh water pump, hot water heater, hot/cold taps at galley sink, bathroom sink, bathroom shower and exterior deck shower. The yacht is equipped with grey and black water holding tanks.  The boat has successfully competed on the Mediterranean classic circuit over the last two seasons with good success. She is a very lively yacht and a certain head-turner at the dock with her elegant lines and cambered rigs.  Call us to arrange a showing or for more information. Lying in La Ciotat, France less than one hour from Marseille international airport.
