1990 Island Packet 38 US$ 119,900Approximately 188 Island Packet 38’s were built by Island Packet Yachts USA between 1986 and 1993.The designer, Bob Johnson’s vision was for a heavy displacement vessel with a more traditional full keeland innovative interior. The vessel is known for its sound construction with 100% hand laid Triaxial glassmolded in one piece with an interior grid structure. The deck is cored with synthetic material. All deckhardware is through bolted with aluminum backing plates. The deck is attached to an inward hull flangewith bolts, lock nuts and adhesive. An athwartship double to starboard forward is just aft of the forwardhead. The main salon boasts settees to port and starboard with navigation station to starboard at the aftportion. The galley is to starboard at the companionway base opposite a full head and second stateroomaft to port. The subject vessel is well equipped with cruising conveniences and a wide range of systemupgradesSpacious is a key word aboard the IP38. Head room tops out at 6 feet 4 inches. The forward bunk has avery comfortable inner spring mattress while the aft bunk boasts a 5 inch latex mattress for a goodnights sleep. The forward head was removed to provide easy access to the anchor locker and morespace for the shower and vanity. The aft head was replaced with an efficient electric fresh water versionand all water and waste tank and hoses were replaced in 2014. Heat is provided by an extremelyefficient diesel fired Webasto system with control vents in the cabin as well as the cockpit for thosewishing to sail year round in cooler climates. This is a truly solid vessel. I taught myself to single hand her though sailing with company is fun too.Come see her and ask all the questions you like. I was not an expert sailor but I took the adventureseriously and while I never crossed the ocean I did get good enough to make it to the Keys, up the Gulfcoast, up the Caloosahatchee river, the Bahamas and through the inland waterway twice. After thatCape Cod and Boston felt like a skip around the block. She will truly take you anywhere. The name was not of my creation but came with a half witted dare and a story whose ending only getsbetter. I purchased her in Plattsburg NY on Lake Champlain from a talented Canadian Gentleman. Iknew I found what I was looking for but still I looked at a couple more before deciding to act. The seatrial was scheduled in April and the deal was done. I then waited for the ice to clear on the Hudson andthe locks to open. Her Yanmar 44 purrs and has the power to maneuver her confidently. She has theamenities to get you through all in good shape. I have manuals on all systems on board organized in twobinders including the boat manufactures and Yanmar manual. Once becoming familiar with, I found theAIS to be fabulous and a necessity on any long range vessel. My first and only remorse as a new ownerwas soon after purchase when the Alpha Marine auto pilot gave trouble but turned out my incorrect usebent the control cable. A new cable did the trick and its been my dependable friend ever since. Sparecable on board. As to recent updates my last southern journey was cut short in North Carolina due tothe pandemic but while there I had all five batteries replaced (Life Line) a new main sail (Rolley Tasker)the shaft was pulled and a new dripless bearing and cutlass installed. I just put a new wash down pumpand a fresh water pump in last month. Keep reading to see the whole package this serious cruiser comes with. Feel free to contact me with any questions. 7. Island Packet 27

    Island Packet 27

    Washington, North Carolina

A true gunkholer version of the original Island Packet 27 line! Naval Architect Bob Johnson made only a small number of this full model of the IP 27 as a shoal draft: these boats aren't seen on the market very often. This shoal draft model reduces the full keel draft from 3'10" down to 2'8" replacing that part with a centerboard to use as needed when heading upwind.  This is done without impacting performance, with over 6' headroom and wide beam, identical to the full keel model, while the centerboard remains hidden within the keel.   Salty Dog is an early (Hull #12) model of this special design made to carry her owners into the smallest nooks along the coastline, especial areas similar to those along the Atlantic Intra-Coastal Waterway, the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, the Bahamas and other islands to the south, all of which she has visited in her past.  The Island Packet 27 or IP27 is the first model of the illustrious Island Packet models designed by Robert K Johnson and was introduced in late 1984, continuing in production though 1992. The design carried forth the popular Bombay Express catboat inspired basics, but turned it into a true cruising boat by lengthening it a bit and broadening the beam and raising the deck and cabin top to give better headroom, thus giving it a much roomier cabin, as well as improved stiffness in handling. The IP27 is 26’ 6” in hull length on deck, plus about 3’ more for a well designed wide bowsprit and anchoring platform, and with a beam of 10’ 6” and a displacement of around 8,000 pounds.  This model is makes it a perfect smaller cruiser that can get into those enticing backwater areas that most others need to bypass. She only draws 2’ 8” with the board up, a savings in draft of of 14”, while increasing that to 6’ with it down when when going to windward in deeper waters. This vessel is equipped with a cutter rig that increases its ability to handle a wide variety of wind and sea conditions to safely give a great ride, no matter what conditions are encountered. Salty Dog is also set up to enhance single handled operations with most lines run aft to the cockpit for ease sail trimming and two tier lifelines are provided all around.   Recent changes on her include upgrading the engine to a Yanmar 3YM30 (27HP) engine with professional installation, replacing the hot water heater, replacing her original aluminum fresh water 31 gal tank, as well as the 12 gal wastewater tank with modern ABS plastic tanks that should last for many more years of satisfactory operation. In addition, the king post for the deck stepped mast was replaced to return the strength required to support the cabin top in that area. Also, the head was redesigned to provide some additional room within for more comfort using it. Much of the below decks decor has been updated, as well, while keeping with the original Island Packet standards as much as possible. Further, the centerboard lift cable was just replaced with a new SS cable to give many more years of service. She is further equipped with a quality Bimini and Dodger on SS tubing supports. She sports two anchors, a CQR and a Bruce, both with more than 150’ of chain and rope rodes.   Salty Dog was put on the hard last Fall, which allowed for her original gel coat bright sides to be polished and waxed to a perfect shine, as well as the bottom to be cleaned, scraped and sanded down and two coats of Interlux bottom paint to be applied. In the past, her bottom layers of FG were ground off and new biaxial cloth and epoxy were professionally applied. Though there are some small tasks required and being addressed still, she can soon be ready to get wet again and carry her new owner on adventures for many years ahead.

    Island Packet Packet Craft 360

    Wiscasset, Maine

The Packet Craft by Island Packet is one fantastic boat....and as tough as she is pretty.  She handles rough conditions with ease and power and will get you where you're going safely.
