Sometimes the hardest part of planning a vacation is deciding which destination deserves to be next on your bucket list, especially when you’re going all-out on a yacht with family and friends. With summer around the corner, we turned to superyacht-loving celebrities for inspiration. Read on for their glamorous Instagram photos of the hottest places where your anchor should be thrown next.
Gang’s all here! Diane Von Furstenberg gave the world the Oscars selfie of yacht vacations when she invited a who’s who of Hollywood on a voyage in French Polynesia aboard her and husband Barry Diller’s yacht in July 2017. The fashion designer proved it in a star-studded photo of the trip, showing Bradley Cooper, Irina Shayk, Anderson Cooper, and Allison Williams scoring some Vitamin D in the South Pacific Ocean. “Part of the funnest group ever! Bye Tahiti!” wrote Von Furstenberg of the photo.
And that’s just the beginning of the fun they had. In more Instagram photos, the group captured the peaceful activities that have given Tahiti and Bora Bora hotspot status.
Bravo’s Andy Cohen, a longtime pal of Cooper’s, showed the duo after swimming “by a deserted island” in Bora Bora.
Cohen invited his Instagram followers to deep dive into the blue when he posted an image of the crystal-clear water and open sky in Tahiti.
Shayk showed off her model legs in an outdoors bathtub beneath a canopy of palm trees after sharing her sunset view of a yacht in the distance.
It’s easy to be the “funnest group” when you’re basking in the sun’s glow aboard Von Furstenberg and Diller’s 305-foot sailing yacht Eos, known as one of the largest private sailing yachts in the world. Fortunately, Cohen gave his Instagram followers a peek inside the impressive home away from home. A mix of polished wood and lush neutral fabrics, the interior is just as stylish as Von Furstenberg herself.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
It might be too cold for a walk in the park in the North East in January, but it’s swimsuit weather year-round in sunny Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Scott Disick soaked up the sun alongside girlfriend Sofia Richie, the daughter of “Dancing on the Ceiling” music icon Lionel Richie, after ringing in 2018.
Located on the Pacific Ocean's Bahía de Banderas, Puerto Vallarta is the only beach destination ranked as one of the "Best Cities in the World” in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2017 Reader's Choice Awards—and Disick and Richie got to see why as they viewed the stunning coastline aboard the majestic Attessa IV superyacht. At 331 feet long, this luxury yacht boasts enough room for 26 guests and 21 crew members. Even more impressive? Look no further than the pool, sundeck, and helicopter dock, the latter two of which were on display in Disick and Richie’s Instagram photos of the trip.
Snuggling up to Disick in one snap, a bikini-donning Richie was framed by Puerto Vallarta’s cloudless sky and turquoise waters. Thanks to Puerto Vallarta’s average high of 80 degrees in January, there was no need for additional clothing.
“The boat is way 2 long we had 2 chop it,” Disick joked in one caption of a snap showing the couple leaning against the chopper in swimsuits.
In another post around the time of the vacation, Disick is seen channeling his inner daredevil on a Jet Ski. “Ok I’m out,” he wrote of one photo featuring the pristine beach.
When you’re not catching some rays aboard a yacht in the Mexican hotspot, Traveler suggests snorkeling at the uninhabited Islas Marietas National Park, where marine life is protected from hunting and fishing. Actress Candice King, known for her role on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, visited the park herself in June 2017. “Last day in paradise...wishing we could jump on a boat and swim into The Marieta Islands one last time,” King wrote of her picture-perfect day.
After a late sunset, grab a romantic meal at Café des Artistes, a Traveler pick that fuses Mexican and French cuisine.
Viva España! Throw on your sunglasses and order a glass of sangria — you’ve descended upon the magical island of Ibiza, located on the east coast of Spain. Known as a popular summer party destination, this Mediterranean locale draws a slew of stars, including Paris Hilton. The hotel heiress is arguably the Queen of Ibiza, as she’s returned year after year for her DJ residency at Amnesia nightclub.
When Hilton isn’t at the turntables, you might catch her sunbathing with pals on yachts near Ibiza’s little sister Island, Formentera, pictures of which Hilton has shared with her more than eight million Instagram followers.
One of Hilton’s most memorable voyages in Ibiza took place in June 2015, when the “Stars Are Blind” singer boarded the 183-foot Galaxy with then-love interest, Swiss entrepreneur Thomas Gross.
The Galaxy’s highlights sound like a list of hotel amenities you’d find at the finest of Hilton properties, including a wine cellar, movie theater, and jacuzzi surrounded by a handsome wood deck, which Hilton highlighted in multiple throwback photos. “Missing my magical island #Ibiza!” she wrote of one image, reminiscing about the summer outing.
Sure, Ibiza might be known for nightlife madness—foam party, anyone?—but a world of relaxing luxury awaits after your yacht docks. Sunset cocktails at Nikki Beach? Just make a reservation. A street performance in Old Town, the historical city center? Check, please. A healthy farm-to-table Mediterranean dinner at Aubergine? Call the driver.
Amalfi Coast, Italy
Sometimes one city is not enough, especially if you’re Beyoncé and JAY-Z. In September 2015, the power couple celebrated the Lemonade singer’s 34th birthday by embarking on a massive Europe trip aboard a Queen Bey-approved superyacht, Galactica Star. Costing $900,000 a week, according to a report by Us Weekly, you could say JAY-Z pulled out all the stops for his leading lady.
“It’s tradition now,” a source reportedly told the publication of Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s vacation. “Almost every September, they head to Italy and France and charter an überluxe yacht for a week or two.”
Überluxe indeed. Reportedly owned by Nigerian energy business magnate Kola Aluko, this 213-foot yacht packs a jacuzzi, helicopter pad, and private “beach club” with a 10-square meter balcony, according to Business Insider. Plus, its tank can store enough fuel for more than 4,500 nautical miles, which came in handy when Beyoncé and JAY-Z toured Italy, traveling from Naples to Sardinia and making stops along the Amalfi Coast.
But of course, Beyoncé indulged. In Instagram photos posted of the trip, the former Destiny’s Child singer enjoyed a champagne toast, breathtaking views, and thin-crust pizza covered in mushrooms.
According to Travel + Leisure, the key to experiencing the best of the Amalfi Coast is setting aside time to explore a variety of its beautiful seaside towns—including Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello—between May and October, when the weather is suited for excursions and, as Beyoncé might recommend, al fresco pizza lunches.
Before Paris Hilton turned the Galaxy into the scene of a photoshoot, Rihanna took her girlfriends on a sun-drenched voyage aboard the same superyacht in September 2014. The ladies opted for Saint-Tropez, a celebrity favorite on the famously luxe French Riviera.
On any given summer day, you can see countless yachts at sea. And if you were lucky enough to be there when RiRi was in town, you may have caught her partying with pals on the Galaxy’s lavish sundeck. Melissa Forde, the singer’s best friend, was on hand to capture memories, specifically Rihanna relaxing in a tan two-piece bikini.
Forde also shared views of the marina as they began a journey. Just look at those stunning mountains in the background!
Once the 183-foot Galaxy turned around, the “Don’t Stop the Music” singer’s entourage had a plethora of indulgences to eagerly await on land, including several establishments where you can pull right up in your yacht. U.K. GQ suggests a drive in a convertible along the heavenly coast, mouth-watering seafood at La Vague d'Or, and a day at Pampelonne beach. Pro tip: The jet set frequents Sénéquier, a restaurant known for its superb service. Now remind us, what did Rihanna say about “Work” again?
