POLK CITY, Fla. — Six athletes have been selected to the 2001 U.S. Junior Water Ski Team. The team will compete at the 2001 Americas? Challenge, November 22-25, in Santiago, Chile.

Athletes named to the U.S. Junior Water Ski Team were: Justin Allen of Winter Garden, Fla.; Tarah Benzel of Groveland, Fla.; Regina Jaquess of Suwanee, Ga.; Brody Reid of Jerseyville, Ill.;, Tomlin Wilson of Minden, La.; and Caroline Wolfe of Homer, Mich. The American Water Ski Association?s International Activities Committee selected the team following the three-day, three-round U.S. Junior Water Ski Team Trials, June 29-July 1, at McCormick Lakes in Seffner, Fla.

"We had just an awesome competition out here this weekend," said Frank Harrison, chairman of the IAC. "The team we selected consists of a lot of great young water ski athletes. I think we?ve got great depth in every event, which should play out very well for us at the Americas? Challenge."

The IAC also selected four alternates to the team. They were: Danyelle Bennett of Zachary, La.; Tyler Boyd of Cypress, Texas; Clark Taylor of Cleveland, Tenn.; and Joy Todd ;Pierson, Fla.

The Americas? Challenge is a biennial international competition featuring teams from North, South and Central America. At the 1999 Americas? Challenge in Los Morelos, Mexico, the U.S. Junior Water Ski Team won the team gold medal by scoring 8,414.3 points. U.S. Junior Water Ski Team members also won 18 of the 24 individual medals awarded, including six gold, seven silver and five bronze medals.
