POLK CITY, Fla. — The U.S. World Senior Trophy Water Ski Team won the team gold medalSunday at the 2003 World Senior Trophy in Balakovo, Russia. Eight U.S. water ski athletes, ages 35 and
over, competed in the championship event, August 28-31.

"The 2003 U.S. World Senior Trophy Water Ski Team is proof of the United States' continued
dominance in international water ski competition," said Steve McDermeit, USA Water Ski's executive
director. "On behalf of USA Water Ski, I wish to extend warm congratulations to the U.S. Team members
on their victory. We are pleased to have such wonderful representation in the senior category."

The U.S. Team tallied 8,671.80 points in defeating runner-up Great Britain, which scored
5,841.96 points. Sweden (5,782.61), Russia (5,453.14) and Ireland (4,957.89) rounded out the top-five
placements in the 12-team field. U.S. athletes accumulated 23 medals, including 10 gold medals, over the
four-day span.

Jane Greenwood (Little Rock, Ark.) swept gold medals in Women's Senior 1 slalom (2 buoys at
32 feet off), tricks (3,980 points), jumping (131.6 feet) and overall (2,385.05 points).
Anne Bennett (Zachary, La.) won gold medals in Women's Senior 2 slalom (1.5 at 32-off), tricks
(3,510 points) and overall (2,700.38 points), and a silver medal in jumping (79.1 feet).
Dale Hallberg (Winter Haven, Fla.) won gold medals in Men's Senior 3 tricks (2,420 points),
jumping (102 feet) and overall (2,959.27 points), and a bronze medal in slalom (5 at 28-off).
Gordon Gay (Fredericksburg, Va.) won silver medals in slalom (2.5 at 32-off), tricks (2,100
points), jumping (97.8 feet) and overall (2,696.76 points) in Senior Men 3.
Ruth Johnston (Mulberry, Fla.) won silver medals in Women's Senior 3 slalom (0.5 at 15-off),
tricks (1,290 points), jumping (48.6 feet) and overall (1,177.31 points).
