A truly beautiful unique piece in like-new condition: a ONE-OFF!!!
Fewer than 50 boats of this Scarab Viper 31 Flatdeck were designed and built by Larry Smith, a designer of offshore boats.
The Scarab Viper 31 Flatdeck offered here was built in 1990 and has always been family-owned on Lake Michigan (USA), used only in freshwater.
I personally bought it in 2021 directly in the USA and shipped it to Germany.
After a 3-year total restoration, it was completed in 2024.
Everything has been overhauled or renewed: from the bow to the propeller... Everything is largely new!
The complete refit has been extensively documented and is very well verifiable through hundreds of pictures.
To make the boat trailerable on German roads, unnecessary weights were replaced with lighter materials during the rebuild.
As the text on this platform is unfortunately limited, I cannot list all my work and improvements here.
Therefore, here is a small excerpt:
- Everything was disassembled and rebuilt up to the hull
- Both engines underwent a complete overhaul (including bearings and seals)
- New fuel injection system for the engines
- New XR drives, propellers, transom, and exhaust system
- Fully hydraulic steering, new drive sync
- Transom plate renewed
- Complete new electrical system
- New cockpit with all gauges and GPS chart plotter
- All throttle and gear cables new
- Hatch, bench seat, and tank cover newly made from aluminum
- All handrails, frames, and substructures powder-coated
- New cockpit floor

Technical equipment
Both engines have been completely overhauled and equipped with many new parts:

Both engines were originally painted black, all brackets and mounting parts are powder-coated in black.
Both engines each have a completely new exhaust system with:
- new aluminum manifolds
- new stainless steel elbows
- new exhaust rubber mounts
- new Gibson mufflers
A completely new fully hydraulic steering system has been installed.
New XR drives and XR transom have been installed.
An electronic drive sync has been mounted. (This ensures an even trim of the drives while underway)
All throttle and shift cables have been renewed and the 4-lever shifting system has been revised.
All trim pumps have been disassembled, cleaned, resealed, and restored to like-new condition.
Both trim tabs have been overhauled, powder-coated in black, and resealed.
Deck and hull equipment
The mirror plate has been completely renewed and re-laminated.
Subsequently, the engine compartment was refurbished and painted with red gelcoat.
A new stainless steel rubbing strip has been installed.
All retractable cleats have been refurbished.
No antifouling and impeccable hull condition!
Marine Electronics
The complete electrical system has been renewed.
New Gaffrig instruments from Livorsy.
GPS speed display.
New Simrad chartplotter.
New marine charger for 2 (new) batteries permanently installed with battery disconnect switch.
