The new 2017 Ferretti 450 is an unusual offering from this builder, in that they commonly focus on much larger yachts (like the Altura 840). And although Ferretti has built smaller models in the past, owner-operators who have a family, a budget, or a slip that demands a boat as opposed to a yacht simply haven’t had a new model option from them recently. The Ferretti 450, which we discovered on display at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, is filling that void. Check out this short First Look Video of the 450, and find out just what it has to offer.

As you may have noticed, it was pouring down rain when we were on the 450. Unfortunately, that prevented us from getting any good shots of the boat’s exterior (the running footage in this First Look was provided by Ferretti). Most impressive was the flybridge, which is larger than expected for a boat of this size, and extends all the way aft to the transom. This means there’s not only room for the upper helm station, but also for a large sunpad forward, a wet bar, and an L-lounge—plus a dinette aft. There’s easily enough room for a half-dozen or more passengers to relax up there whether you’re cruising or at anchor. In the cockpit a large aft lounge with a flip-top table and an extended swim platform create yet another inviting environment—just as long as the rain holds off—and since the aft cabin bulkhead doors slide open, that cockpit can essentially become one with the galley and saloon. A third exterior social area with a large sunpad can be found on the bow.

The 450 is available in two or three-cabin configurations, and in both cases has two heads. The master is a full-beam mid-cabin, and if you opt for the three stateroom layout the forward VIP gives up a bit of room, while the starboard-side head shifts forward and to port. Standard décor features lacquered walnut, solid-surface countertops, and light-colored fabrics.

What does all of this add up to? Ferretti says they wanted the 450 to be an ideal boat, or perhaps small yacht, for family boating. The multiple social areas, different cabin options, and integration of indoor and outdoor areas are all intended to help the boat succeed in this mission—and we think it does so quite well.
