WASHINGTON, N.C. — Fountain's popular 42' Lightning will be available in a "Poker Run Edition" for 2005. The stepped 42-footer, which also will boast a redesigned hull and deck, will be the Washington, N.C., manufacturer's first production-built sit-down model. Though the emphasis of the boat will be on comfortable and supportive seatingn in the cockpit, it will have a small cabin.

Base power will be twin 525-hp, close-cooled Mercury Racing 525EFI engines. Buyers who want more power also can order the boat with 1,075-hp fuel-injected engines from Mercury Racing.

"We thought it was time to do something like this," said Gary Baltz, the company's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "We've been doing more custom work, such as our in-house painting and our redesigned dashes, and the 42 Poker Run Edition fits in with the direction we've been going."

The standard 42' Lightning's deck and hull also have been completely retooled. The 42-footer's engine compartment has been expanded to better accommodate staggered engine installations. In the cockpit, a sliding door has replaced Fountains trademark three-piece, lift-and-fold entryway.

More information on the Fountain 42' Poker Run Edition, as well as information on new models from various manufacturers, can be found in Powerboat's 2005 New Model Preview in the October/November issue. The issue goes on sale the second week of September.
