This time of year, it's always exciting to anticipate all the latest models coming out, and I usually conduct a little mental bet with myself about which company will be first to introduce the coming year's new products. Well, I lost the bet, but the new Supra Launch 21V is a big winner in its own right.

With styling inspired by the Hummer and Land Rover automotive brands, the Launch 21V features strong design cues on deck and inside. For example, the playpen bow area features brawny brushed aluminum grab rails atop the gunwales and thick padding wrapped in vinyl so rich to the touch it could be used in automotive applications.

At the helm, Supra used elegant nickel-finish bezels around the instrumentation, which blends well with the soft-touch vinyl dash pad and rubberized dashboard and gunwale trim. The steering wheel and throttle also are accented with brushed aluminum, and the swivel driver seat has a flip-up thigh bolster for aided visibility when docking.

In the cockpit, Supra designers tied the accents in the upholstery together to create an interior with a cohesive look, and widened and deepened the cockpit for enhanced comfort and safety. They also added a flip-down rear-bench armrest with a pair of cupholders and a flip-up backrest at the walk-through to the bow area next to the traditional observer seat. The result is a cockpit that can be configured to the size of your crowd, which can number as high as 13, according to factory literature.

If you're curious about standard features, the Supra Launch 21V has plenty, starting with a 325-horsepower fuel-injected small-block engine from Indmar. The boat also comes standard with a dual-axle trailer and a three-bag ballast system with a pump that fills three times faster than last year's setup. Wake enhancement also can be fine-tuned with Supra's Smart Plate, Perfect Pass speed control and, of course, the boat has the requisite towing tower.

Other features include iPod/MP3 connectivity, four-channel amplifier with cockpit speakers, Sirius satellite radio capability, swivel board racks and a smart new "battery saver ignition switch that acts as a kill switch for all non-essential powered elements when the boat is turned off." Retail prices start at $54,595.
