Description

Buzzards Bay 30s were originally built in 1902 by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, Rhode Island.  The 47-foot yachts were ordered by the Beverly, Massachusetts Yacht Club and were raced as a class.

MASHNEE is a rare offering, being one of six known remaining hulls that has had

the combined restoration efforts of well-known master craftspeople under the

watchful eye of the owner. MASHNEE has been meticulously maintained since

the restoration by the restorer on the fresh waters of Lake Champlain.

Mashnee is actually Marconi rigged , but her chainplates never got changed in position and she could get back to her original rig , but ,like Rowdy, she has been Marconi rigged since long time and  her rig became accepted even by strict race rules as CIM

MASHNEE has a new masthead rig as of 2015. Her 62' Sitka spruce keel

stepped mast, boom and bow sprit are new in 2008. The standing rigging is

stainless steel to bronze turnbuckles and chainplates.

Mashnee's salon features port and starboard Concordia settee berths with red

valour cushions that blend nicely with the cabin's varnished mahogony. There is

an abundance of storage in high cabinets port and starboard. Forward to

starboard is a cabinet and dove-tail drawer storage.

The galley carries the theme of simplistic elegance from the main cabin

by employing custom brass sink water pump and brass filtered water spigot. The

crockery storage is plenty and with the white raised Herreshoff white panel

cabinets and the varnished mahogany contrasting with the brass hardware you

have elegant "eye candy".

MASHEE's next owner benefits from a trove of written press on the restoration,

construction plans, Herreshoff museum history on the Buzzards Bay 30's and a

large amount of video footage on her restoration.

Her rebuilding was done over a three year period under the leadership of Darling

Boatworks in Charlotte, Vermont. French and Webb of Belfast, Maine built the

main cabin top and rudder. D. N. Hylan Associates of Brooklin, Maine drew the

construction plans.

She is double planked with 9/16 Douglas fir over 9/16 Cypress planking. Bronze

screws fasten planking to white oak frames and backbone. DYNEL is epoxied to

plywood over her cedar decks and then AWLGRIP paint applied. The toe rails

and hatches are Honduran mahogony. The deck house is varnished mahogany.

Her lead ballast was melted down and recast before mounting.
