The EH6
was originally built in 1934 in Lemmer as a so-called milk barge, which transported milk from the meadows in Friesland to the dairy factory. Therefore, the ship is quite narrow (3m) for its length (9.3m) to fit under all the small bridges and locks. The hull was built by eye, without any form of construction plan; it is not straight anywhere and no two pieces are the same (port vs. starboard).
Later, the ship was used as a fishing vessel in Urk, and then in Enkhuizen, hence the name.
During the war, the ship was submerged and was rediscovered in the 1950s. The hull turned out to be in good condition and it was converted into a sailing yacht with a cabin in 1957.
In the 1960s, the Dutch minesweeper 'de Badjang' returned from Indonesia to Den Helder and was scrapped. Parts of the interior have been incorporated into the EH6.
