Description

The Amel Maramu's are highly saughtafter and for good reason! They are not your average dock queens to be tucked ashore at the slightest breeze. They are known for being exceptionally well thought out, oceangoing machines! This 46 Maramu is a true classic ready to sail short or singlehanded. The mizzen and main sail plan on the Maramu 46 is simple to sail for two and, with an autopilot and experience, singlehand-able. The main and jib balance each other when sailing wing on wing. Also, a Maramu flying both mizzen, main and gennakers is truly a beautiful sight. The center cockpit provides a safe haven under way and one you understand the Maramu's construction methods and went into these vessels construction it will provide one with peace of mind on the high seas.

This particular vessel, 'Fleur Caraibe', is on her third ownership and was was fairly recently picked up in Grenada by a knowledgeable sailing/boat building couple with the plans to carry on their adventures in the Caribbean and beyond. They love the boat and have done a great job bringing her up to speed thus far completing numerous projects to make for a comfortable life on the water here in the Caribbean. Unfortunately, their plans have changed and they have decided to put her on the market. As the asking price would suggest there are still some projects to complete but she is fully capable of splashing and going sailing today and completing outfitting her to the new owners likings while under way.

VESSEL HISTORY

The previous owner is said to be the second owner so it is on its third ownership currently as I understand it. The previous owner purchased the boat in 2004. Previous to him the vessel was said to be purchased new in La Rochelle, France. It was said that the vessel initially sailed the boat in the Mediterranean under the name 'Sarah7'. He also participated in the first ARC (Atlantic Race of Cruisers) under the start number 62. The previous owner also went on to say that the boat and the previous owner was well known in the Caribbean over the years.

ACCOMMIDATION

This vessel features the standard layout for the Maramu that consists of two large cabins fore and aft, each with an identical attached head and shower. Headroom ranges from 6'6" in the saloon, 6'4" in both of the head areas, to 6'3" in both of the staterooms. Every berth aboard the vessel is a minimum of 6'6" in length. The fwd stateroom has 2x single berths which quickly convert to a large double . The aft cabin has a large double berth and a vanity/writing desk. The saloon area readily converts to a proper offshore off-watch sleeping cabin if needed in severer weather conditions. Both the port & starboard settees quickly make into extremely secure sea berths with lee boards. The interior woods are European timber, plenty of lighting and ventilation making for very comfortable living.

MECHANICAL COMPONENTS

This vessel has the standard 63HP Perkins 4-154 that, when property maintained, is not uncommon to see 10,000 hours! The engine room is beneath the cockpit sole and unique to the Amel Maramu’s, is completely encapsulated and water tight from he rest of the boat. So in case of a fire in the room the oxygen can be cut off and if any water happens to intrude into the rest of the boat it will not flood into the engine compartment causing the engine to fail. To aerate the enclosed space, there are two fans. One to port blows in fresh air while another to starboard vacates hot air. The airflow is of great importance for an enclosed engine such as on Amels. Another notable feature of the Amel is the single, below the water line through hole in the engine room. The forward bulkhead is also designed to be water tight. The boards used to tighten down the forward bulk head are located in the forward hanging locker. The steering system on this Maramu 46 is hydraulic/chain & gear type.
