DECATUR is a well-kept Ta Shing 40 designed by Robert Perry. Her interior finish exemplifies the high-quality teak joinery characteristic of Ta Shing, with louvered locker doors, laminated door frames and a beautiful salon table. Large hatches and white painted overhead and cabinsides provide a bright contrast to the homey feel of the incredible interior joinery. Her two stateroom, one head layout with a spacious “Perry” galley is ideal for a liveaboard cruising couple.
DECATUR’s interior is beautifully finished in teak, characteristic of the high-quality workmanship produced by the Ta Shing boatyard.
The forward stateroom features a berth slightly offset to port. The hull ceiling is lined with teak battens. Shelves and lockers run fore and aft above the berth to port and starboard. A small dressing settee has storage beneath and there are drawers and lockers beneath the aft end of the berth. There is an expansive hanging locker aft and to starboard with an automatic light. A large hatch provides excellent light and ventilation in addition to three opening ports. Excellent storage space for sails and other large items is located beneath the berth.
The head with separate shower stall is at the forward end of the salon to port. A counter runs along the aft end of the compartment with stainless sink, pressure hot/cold water. There is a mirror on the bulkhead above. Two drawers and a locker are located below. There are two lockers outboard above the toilet. The separate shower stall is located forward, with a bench seat outboard. There is a teak grate covering the shower sump. A locker outboard provides storage for small items. There are two opening ports and a dorade vent which provide ventilation for this space.
The salon is next aft, featuring a comfortable U-shaped dinette surrounding a large teak table. There is a straight settee to starboard. Outboard of the settees are storage lockers behind the seatbacks. At the aft inboard end of the dinette is a large storage space. There are lockers and bookshelves above the settees. The nav station is aft facing at the aft end of the starboard settee. The large chart table top lifts to provide chart storage space below.
The galley is aft and to port. Robert Perry is known for his spacious and well configured galleys and DECATUR’s is no exception. The C-shaped laminate counter is surrounded by teak fiddles. At the forward inboard end there is a deep two bin stainless sink. Below is a large locker for cleaning supplies and other items. Inboard there is a top loading trash or dry storage locker. The propane three burner stove/oven with broiler is aft. Banks of four drawers are adjacent fore and aft. Outboard above the counter is a sliding door locker with shelves banked with lockers to either side. At the aft end of the counter is the top loading fridge and freezer compartment. There is a large locker above the counter aft and a small open locker.
Ta Shing has made use of every last available space on board DECATUR. There is a clever sliding door locker with shelves beneath the companionway and a locker at the foot of the stairs.
The aft stateroom is adjacent to the companionway to starboard. A large quarterberth is aft with drawers beneath and a shelf running along the hull side. There is a hanging locker and a smaller locker and drawer at the forward outboard end of the cabin. Two opening ports provide ventilation.
