Description

The Corbin 39 was the result of an effort to design the ideal boat for serious bluewater cruising. It probably came very close to being exactly that. More so than with most other sailboats, you find the Corbin in the hands of people who have made extensive bluewater passages or were at least planning on doing so.

The Corbin's overall length and cutter rig were selected based on the maximum boat that could be handled by a crew of two. The interior of the Corbin attempts to provide the kind of storage and functional living space that would be needed by crew that may be away from a home port for years on end. Seaworthiness is also high on the priority list as demonstrated by the boat's robust construction, skeg hung rudder, an interior steering station, and a deep, safe ocean-going cockpit.

The MkII model was a redesign in 1982 where they moved the mast forward, added a bowsprit and moved the forestay to the bowsprit which helped tame the weather helm that the first iteration was known for.

NECESSITY was repowered with a Westerbeke 44B diesel engine in 2005. She also had her interior partially redone by a very skilled craftsman at the same time. The quality of her interior finish is very close to the quality of the few factory finished Corbin's that were built. She is a proven passagemaker and is extremely well equipped. NECESSITY is ready to safely and comfortably take her new owners anywhere they wish to travel.
